The Experience

The house is set on three floors with a huge bay window overlooking the pedestrianised road and once belonged to the Harbour Master, so you’re right in the thick of things. A comfortable sitting room with a brick fireplace has some books and plants and a dining area with table for 10 overlooks the street. The kitchen is galley style and small, so not for sociable cooks, but it has all the kit you need and the basics for cooking plus wine and chocolates.

Three double bedrooms on the first floor have wooden floors with rugs, pretty furniture and share a bathroom with shower. Up to the top floor for two more bedrooms with a shower room. All have good mattresses and crisp cotton bedding. The outdoor space at the back is more of a yard than a garden but at a pinch you could rustle up a barbecue.

Mostly you’ll be out in the town, walking and cycling in the New Forest, or heading for lovely days out sailing or at the beach. For yachting enthusiasts, having your boat at Town Quay just a 50 yard walk from the house is a real treat.

Reviews

I hadn’t appreciated until we arrived at the property how well it is located. It is a lovely home that makes a perfect place to stay.

John, London

Pollyanna’s place was perfect for the 8 of us! Comfortable and spacious, very clean and an excellent location! Pollyanna was super helpful responsible and let us come a few hours earlier than advertised. If you are much taller than 6ft you might want to watch your head on some of the cottage beams and door frames!

Vic, Bristol

Along with our three children (5, 8 and 10) we had a wonderful stay. Absolute gem of a house with everything that makes a great stay: well-equipped kitchen, crisp linens on excellent mattresses, and a charming central location a stone’s throw from the coast and an array of good restaurants, shops, bakeries and ice cream stalls!

Sarah, Reigate

Perfect place for all the family, easy access to shops and restaurants, well equipped, everything you need for a family break, thank you.

Simon, Winchester

Great place to stay in the middle of town with all great amenities… Pollyanna was amazing host always welcoming and the location of the place was incredible

José, Malta

Ideal for sailors but also perfect for exploring the New Forest Set at the bottom of the beautiful town of Lymington, this lovely house is comfortable and well equipped. The delightful owners have provided the perfect spot for a short holiday. In a bustling part of the town and on a road under which there is apparently a smugglers' passageway, it's surprisingly quiet. It's a bit of a gem!

Rachel, Sawday's Inspector

What a delight! Pollyanna’s place is picture-postcard perfect. The location is incredible - right by the quayside with all the local shops. We were a family of 5 and we all felt very comfortable. The layout makes the most use of the space. Finally, Pollyanna is a wonderful host and we are already planning to stay again next summer.

Geoff, California

Comfortable and snug location right on the cobbles. Great for the neighbouring restaurants and high street. Short walk to the yacht marinas. Kitchen was well appointed and had all we needed. Very efficient turnaround.

Simon, Hampshire

Great location in the centre of Lymington. The house is spacious and Pollyanna was very helpful.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house sits at the bottom of the town just yards from the water and a little ferry boat. There's a pub over the road and a very fancy restaurant around the corner. Lots of quaint little shops are within spitting distance and the High Street is an easy walk. On Saturdays there is a lively market and the local community centre has film nights regularly. The New Forest is a five-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Tim & Pollyanna Montagu

  • Our house is in the historic part of the town, with a pedestrian, cobbled street outside.
  • Excellent pubs and restaurants near by and a short drive to the New Forest!
  • Moments from both the harbour and high street.
  • A 2 minute walk to the train station that can take you to Southampton and then on to London.
  • Market days on a Saturday.
  • A short ferry will take you to Yarmouth on the Isle of White.
