The Experience

The house and garden have a secret feel, hidden down a quiet bridleway – you may hear a horse clop by occasionally but otherwise the only sound is birdsong. Those who adore swish will be in their element here with big, bright interiors, plump sofas, leather armchairs, a nifty sound system and huge TV. There’s underfloor heating but also a double-sided wood-burner and a drinks bar – help yourself to different local gins.

Bedrooms – one in a separate annexe for escapees – are all different in style but with plump beds piled high with throws and cushions, crisp linen, pretty views, gorgeous bathrooms and White Company lotions and soaps.

Cooks will thrive in the well-ordered kitchen. Throw open bi-fold doors to the garden with ping-pong table and outdoor kitchen for summer meals. A generous welcome hamper includes a bottle of fizz, popcorn and marshmallows for toasting. A private chef, yoga lessons, massage and babysitting can all be arranged, just ask.

Reviews

We’ve just returned from a memorable stay at the Lodge with our multi-generational family. The house was warm, welcoming, packed with every home comfort possible and a great venue for a family get-together. The bedrooms were smart and extremely comfortable and the bathrooms a delight. Lots of outdoor space (under utilised as it was February!) with a beautiful view of the Parish church. Great walks from the front door with our little dog which added to the bucolic scene. Private parking, laundry room, games and cinema rooms all added to the overall enjoyment. Katie was so helpful throughout.

The property is stunning, exactly like the photos. We was not disappointed at all. The property was clean and it was lovely to see a hamper and a card which made us feel very welcome. The property is perfect for families or a group of friends. The pool and hot tub were also lovely and warm. The only minor issue was that we only got given one dishwasher tablet for a Friday - Monday booking, we did contact the team to ask if there was any more but the cleaning team didn't get back to me. Other than that the stay was pretty much perfect and we all enjoyed it. We would definitely return!

A lovely stay in a fabulous house. The lodge had everything we needed as a family and more, the pool was very welcome during the hot weather and outside space was super for the family to enjoy. There was plenty of space for our friends to join us for a couple of nights and the bedrooms and layout could mean even more couple have stayed. We really enjoyed a relaxing time at the lodge and look forward to staying again.

Fabulous accommodation in a lovely setting. Could not ask for anything more from a break in the UK. The Lodge is superbly furnished and has everything a family needs, plus the fabulous pool and hot tub and gaming set up for the kids. Would highly recommend.

We had an amazing stay at The Lodge, we felt like we could have been abroad. Days spent around the gorgeous heated swimming pool, alfresco dining on the lovely rustic table with countryside views to the church in the distance. It's so peaceful and private yet only a 5-10 minute drive or easy bike ride to some lovely villages and pubs. We also loved visiting Cirencester and Burford. Can't recommend enough. We were adults only but need to return with the children as so much to keep them entertained.

Sandy, Bristol

We had a fantastic time at the Lodge to celebrate a special birthday. The house has everything you could wish for to keep the family entertained, we especially enjoyed the beautiful swimming pool. The location is idyllic, beautiful countryside views with a church in the distance, would highly recommend, we will definitely book again.

Spellbound is an absolute dream destination in the Cotswolds. A great choice for a memorable family holiday, with the pool, cinema room, games room and plenty more , you’ll want for nothing in this very well equipped luxurious house. We can’t wait to return.

We absolutely love The Lodge. After a short stay last year we couldn’t wait to come back. The house & facilities are incredible & with three active boys it’s rare to find somewhere with so much to keep them busy, whilst also offering a space to relax & enjoy quality family time. There are also some amazing places locally to eat/visit. Highly recommend.

Nina, Bristol

We had an incredible weekend at The Lodge and it is absolutely beautiful! Some thoughtful gifts for the birthday girl added to the experience. We all got lots of style ideas and it was in such a lovely location too. Everything was just perfect!

Kirsty, London

What a beautiful house in a beautiful location! Tranquil and serene, tucked out of the village for complete peace and quiet. There are some lovely walks straight out of the door and lots of choice for eating out just a short drive away. The house is tastefully decorated and very comfortable with everything you would expect for a home from home with the added bonus of the swimming pool and hot tub which was a welcome sight after a day adventuring in the Cotswolds. This was our second visit with friends, with so much to do and see in the area we are already planning our third.

Nerys, Bristol

What an amazing stay we've all had. We felt really looked after and the gorgeous Christmas Tree, beautiful decorations around the house and the roaring log fire meant we felt the most "christmassy" we've ever had! We enjoyed blustery walks around the house and particularly the old RAF base across the fields. The view of the church from the kitchen is also truly wonderful and such a lovey space to have breakfast. Thank you for all the wonderful local products - we loved the coffee. I'm sure we will be returning soon!

What a magical weekend. Such a stunning house in the most idyllic village. We were 5 couples and there was so much space. The house has been beautifully decorated and every detail has been thought of. There are some great pubs in the surrounding villages but we wanted to spend the evenings at the house as there is so much to do. There is a heated pool, hot tub, games room with darts and pool and a brilliant cinema room. As it was sunny we also managed to have a BBQ outside by the fire pit and enjoy the peaceful countryside. This is our third trip to this house and we will definitely be back!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful lodge nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds with my entire family, including our extended family, to celebrate our parents' wedding anniversary. I must say, it was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. The location of the lodge was simply idyllic, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and a tranquil ambiance that instantly put us at ease. The peaceful setting allowed us to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thank you. X

Andrew, Aylburton

We have stayed at The Lodge now many times, sometimes as a family with the children and other times as an adults only stay with friends. Every time we have had a fantastic stay no complaints at all, the house is always immaculate when we arrive and everything you expect to find is there for your convenience. The swimming pool, hot tub and games room are always a highlight of the property, along with the location, the beautiful gardens and surroundings. Close by are lovely village pubs to visit and Cirencester which is full of bustling shops, restaurants and pubs. Highly recommend.

Jess, Gloucestershire

John, Sevenoaks

We had a superb holiday at this house. It is set in the most beautiful setting, with privacy and beautiful views. The house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need and more for a weeks stay. Stylishly furnished and the heated pool was perfect entrainment for the children. I couldn’t recommend enough and we will certainly be booking again for next year.

A beautifully designed house in the most idyllic of locations. Everything has been thought of to make sure you really relax. All ages will enjoy it here - there's plenty to keep the kids occupied and adults will truly unwind. Excellent location with total tranquillity yet within easy reach of Cirencester and the Cotswold Water Park.

Location

The neighbourhood

The walk along the bridleway leads through ancient woodland and down to a stream. Walk to The Crown Inn at Cerney Wick - 20 minutes along lanes and footpaths, just crossing one main road. Cricklade is the closest town for shops and pubs, a 9-minute drive. Cirencester is 15 minutes in the car for lovely shops and the Corinium Museum. There are many beautiful Cotswold towns and villages close by.

Local points of interest from Katie Hunt

  • To make your stay extra special why not treat yourself to an in house chef, massage therapist or yoga session by the pool.
  • You're less than 10 mins from the Cotswold Water Park with lots of water sports and activities. You can hire bikes here. Did you know there are 180 lakes in total!
  • There are so many lovely country pubs in the area many 30 mins to 1 hr stroll away or 10 mins bike ride. Cricklade is the nearest town with a pretty high-street, independent shops and a number of pubs and restaurants.
  • Cirencester, the "capital" of the Cotswolds is 10 mins away. Visit the weekly market and array of independant shops and restaurants as well as the Corinium Museum that reveals the towns' Roman Past. Stroll through Cirencester Park.
  • The Lodge is a great base to explore more of the Cotswolds including Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Cheltenham. A private tour can be arranged for you.
  • The private garden at The Lodge is a haven for wildlife; can you spot the squirrels, deer, resident robin and dragonfly? Stroll to the nearby Church to discover Down Ampney's role in the war and the nearby airfield.

Introducing

Katie Hunt

Katie bought this place in February 2021 and has been refining it over the past year - adding a heated pool, bathrooms and giving the design of the house a lot of thought. They live on a farm about an hour away and you let yourselves in with a key safe but there's somebody at hand if you need anything during your stay.
