The Experience
You park up then walk down a path alongside the Millstream to reach your hideaway over three floors sitting right next to a beautiful lake replete with swans and ducks. There are rowing boats to borrow so you can glide along feeling at one with nature. The sitting room/dining and kitchen space is on the ground floor, cosy with underfloor heating and an electric wood-burner. The kitchen is fairly basic but adequate for holiday cooking and you’ll find homemade biscuits and a bottle of Prosecco waiting for you.
Upstairs to the super cosy and private-feeling bedroom with a four poster bed, a sofa, the original dove nesting area and a picture window overlooking the lake so you can drink your morning tea watching the light on the water and listening to birds. Right at the top find the bathroom and an extra bed, but this place is better for two.
Sign up for a pottery or printmaking course, book a slot in the swimming pool or hot tub. Relax.

Location
The neighbourhood
The church – here before 1150 – is worth exploring. There's a super coffee shop in the village and a decent pub for a pint and pub grub. Footpaths radiate around the village for gorgeous walking. Climb up Bredon hill (1000ft) – from the top you can see several counties on a clear day. You'll find a good deli and the Fox and Hounds in Bredon. Visit a Roman mosaic walk in Winchcombe by Sudeley Castle.

Introducing
Bill & Diana Herford
Diana (an ex-antiques dealer) and Bill (a potter and farmer) have been doing B&B and self-catering for many years and they still play a part but it's definitely a family affair, with daughter Auriol (who runs Kite Studios in London) spending more time here and their son Oliver (a potter) living on site with his wife and children. Lindy and Garth, from South Africa, have recently joined the team.
Enjoy a stay in this 14th-century dovecote for two by the lake (in the grounds of a Georgian manor) for some downtime to think or write, or a romantic weekend. Enrol on a pottery or printmaking course, blow the cobwebs away with a walk on Bredon hill and return for a pre-booked soak in the hot tub or sauna.
