The Experience
A cheerful cottage, attached to Hilary’s daughter’s house, surrounded by fields that the family has farmed for generations. Zip past cows, chickens and organic vegetable gardens, park at the bottom and wander up to your charming eco retreat (the A429 is close but you won’t hear it from inside). Solar panels, air-source heat pump, logs from the sustainably managed coppice, and water from the borehole make your stay as green as can be. Find blush-red Ikea-style sofa and chairs in front of a warming wood-burner in the sitting room and Indian prints adorning the walls in the sunny yellow kitchen. Upstairs to a spic-and-span bathroom, a homely twin and a roomy double; the double bed carved from cherry wood from the farm. The Chester-Masters’ award-winning organic shop and café is a 20-minute meander: pop in for lunches, tea and cake or stock up on milk, cheese, meat and veggies – all produced on the farm! A south-facing garden, woodland walks from the door, cookery, cheese-making courses and farm tours mean you’ll be happy to stay put but do head out, the Cotswolds lie at your feet.

Introducing
Maya Chester-Master
Maya's parents, Will and Hilary took over the management of the farm from Will's family in 1990 and set about establishing an organic system of farming from day one. They are both totally committed to organic practices and are striving to make Abbey Home Farm a truly sustainable place, both environmentally and financially. Maya looks after the holiday cottages and camping.
My sister and I just had a good autumn week at Lower Wiggold. The cottage is so comfortable, quiet and sustainable, with the wonderful organic café and shop a walk away, and the air source heat pump keeping it warm. The milk, yoghurt and cream from the farm cows and the vegetables grown around the café and shop are organic food at its best. We met friends in the café several times, and enjoyed both the food and the general relaxed and friendly nature of the place, with views over the veg fields. We enjoyed walking on the marked farm tracks, seeing the beginning of autumn colours in the woods.
