The Experience
Make yourselves at home in the dining room with antiques, pictures, photographs, china plates and lots of interesting books. Tea and home-baked apple cake or scones are waiting for you, or you can have a nip from the honesty bar; you’ll also find Dorset wine and a friend’s honey to buy. The sun-room overlooking the garden is a good spot for a sundowner before wandering out to dinner.
Breakfast choices are posted on a blackboard and agreed upon the evening before, with vegetarian and vegan options too: avocado and spinach, homemade American pancakes with blueberry sauce, omelettes, plus ham and eggs, smoked salmon, Kedgeree or the full English, served in the sun room or garden if you prefer – help yourselves to cushions from the basket.
Take a book to the French day bed under the honeysuckle on balmy days, or visit the Cherries café in the village for good food.

Despite a lot of wet weather we had a lovely stay with Angela. Our room was comfy with a view of the chapel on the hill. Breakfasts were delicous and Angela also cooked an amazing dinner for us on Valentine's Day!

We spent several lovely days in Abbotsbury at Angela's Quintessential Bed and Breakfast, and quintessential it is. Angela is a wonderful hostess. We chose to have our first dinner prepared by Angela, who made a foodie-worthy dinner of hake fish, spinach and potatoes, served with wine. I chose not to drive the narrow winding roads at night, so Angela personally offered to drive us to a dinner reservation in the neighboring village so we wouldn't have to pay a taxi fare in two directions. The house is lovely and charming situated in a true English village. We were lucky to get a reservation!

Angela is a very friendly host and went to great lengths to make sure we were comfortable. She is happy to share all her recommendations of where to eat and what to see and I have to say she was spot on with these. Breakfast was varied and very good often with locally sourced ingredients. We felt totally at ease coming and going there. This is a classic cozy country cottage, with a medley of furniture and ornaments and flowers. stairs really are steep though! We hope to return next year and would not stay anywhere else.

Everything you could want from the most amazing B & B especially the home cooked food from the Aga!

An excellent stay with a delightful host. A birthday treat for my husband - so the breakfast proved superb - as did our welcome evening meal provided by Angela. Evening meal recommendations worked well too. Lots to explore in the area without needing the car. Would recommend the Tropical gardens nearby. A relaxing mini-break in a lovely home - felt we’d made a friend!

We had a hugely enjoyable 4 night stay . Our room was delightful, with a view of the chapel and a very comfortable bed. Angela is the perfect host, thinking of everything you might want and providing it. Her breakfast is exceptional making full use of excellent local produce. She is a great cook so next time we will book in for her homecooked supper. Abbotsbury is very pretty and there is so much to see locally that we didn't stray further than 10 miles.

Angela's B&B was a perfect base for walking the Dorset Coastal Path for 4 days, Lyme Regis to Weymouth, which was all possible by public transport. A warm and chatty host, Angela has created a beautiful cottage here in the very unusual village of Abbotsbury, surrounded by stone and thatched buildings in all directions and a 14th century chapel, ancient abbey buildings, the coast and swannery all within easy walking distance. This is Thomas Hardy country, with rolling hills, wildlife, The Fleet, Chesil Beach and so much to savour on the doorstep. Thank you Angela for a very memorable stay.

The Quintessential is aptly named. New owner Angela has wasted no time - refreshing the rooms with delightfully quirky décor and a touch of French Country style. The rooms are impeccable; hugely comfortable double beds, one with a romantic rolled top bath. The garden layout is a similar eclectic mix of lavender, olive and a fig trees and artful sun traps From the cream tea on arrival through to the superb breakfasts this is everything you could possibly ask for from an English Cottage B&B. Regrettably, in these Covid times, we could not hug our new-found friend… but we will return.

- St Catherine’s Chapel perched on the hilltop is just twenty minutes walk from the house. The views when you arrive at the top are iconic. The Tropical gardens, Swannery and Chesil Beach are all within walking distance from the cottage.
- There is a double decker bus that runs from Poole to Lyme Regis along the coastline with commanding views of the Chesil beach along the way. The bus stop Is five mins walk from the cottage.
- The Island of Portland is not far away with a famous lighthouse and great walks. Lots of water sports here.
- I recommend The Three Horseshoes pub and The Parlour Restaurant in Burton Bradstock. These are my favourite places for dinner. Rachel’s shack in West Bay is great for sunny days with mainly fish based menu. Husband is a fisherman. P
- Abbotsbury is very convenient for lovely market towns such as Bridport and Dorchester. Both only twenty minutes drive away.

Introducing
Angela Hillier
Angela, part Welsh, part Greek (what a combination!) has worked in hotels all her life and has travelled widely in the UK. She ran a bistro, cafe and B&B in Somerset before she settled here. She's tireless and fun and infectiously enthusiastic - she also loves looking after people so you're in safe hands.
Angela is a lovely lady who looked after us extremely well. Clean and tastefully decorated room with nice little touches throughout. Gave us a really delicious supper of a beef casserole followed by a lovely crumble. Breakfast was unfussy and really tasty. It was good chatting to Angela about places we had all visited in the past. Cannot rate this lovely B & B highly enough. Nicholas and Dianne.
