The living spaces are cosy and in good country-house style, with squishy sofas, merry wood-burners and fresh flowers from the gardens – you’ll find big TVs too for rainy days. The windows are very pretty and there are books, so it shan’t feel miserable if you’re stuck indoors. On sunny days you can sit under the trees with your morning cup of tea or evening sundowner with glorious views over the estate.

Kitchens have painted Shaker units and all you need for holiday cooking (East Lodge has a slightly bigger one); you eat at tables under the window. You’re left a hamper with local milk, eggs, jam, butter, cheese and bread – you can also buy fruit, vegetables and honey from the walled garden on the estate. Well-dressed bedrooms, not huge, have thick bath robes and sparkling bathrooms with True Grace soaps.

You’re in glorious countryside on the edge of a tiny village with afternoon teas in the community hall on Sundays.
