The Experience

You’re on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, lost in blissful country, with paths that lead up into glorious hills. Tumble back down to this super inn, where every square inch has been refurbished by Butcombe, making the place shine. Expect airy interiors, a sober country feel, a sun-trapping terrace, a fire that crackles in winter and, of course, Butcombe ales. As for the food, it’s as local as can be and freshly prepared – modern British in style and including all the old favourites.

Deeply comfortable bedrooms, three in the Coach House just across the car park, are immediately relaxing with smart TVs, rich fabrics, well-dressed beds, decent coffee and fresh milk. Wake to a brilliant breakfast then head out to Cranborne Chase for walks or cycles.

Spend balmy evenings enjoying chilled wine and seafood in the quintessential English garden with terraces, a pavilion bar and wonderful views across the village to woodlands.
