The Experience

You couldn’t fail to feel happy here – with so much space inside and out, it’s a peach of a place to stay in any weather. Larger groups can also take the cottage next door, a sweet hideaway for grandparents or those wishing to flee the general throng. The five bedrooms in the barn are downstairs, some can be twins and all are a good size with thick mattresses, lined curtains and good art; low-level lighting guides you at night.

Upstairs to an enormous, beamed living room, beautifully lit, with a long table for convivial jigsaws, chopping and eating. At one end a sleek kitchen with plenty of kit, sharp knives and a wine fridge, at the other – soft sofas, good books and a wood-burner. Another sitting room has a strapping TV and a corner sofa which teenagers will hog.

Indoor pool, firepit, hot tub, pygmy goats, chickens and sheep to pet, fairy dell with hammocks and disco balls, veg patch, outdoor shower and smooth lawn – all is surprising and delightful.

We think you'll love

  • Going somewhere with your children which is cosy but also very beautiful - there's been no compromise
  • Exploring food markets, taking wine tours, eating great local food or binging it back to cook
  • Sitting round the fire pit at night watching the stars come out and bats flitting about happily

You should know

  • For groups of 12, five bedrooms are in the barn and one is in the cottage next door. Sorry - no dogs.
  • The walls are thick downstairs - you may have to move about a bit with your phone – but upstairs is fine
  • The owners live in the farmhouse on site and occasionally use the pool a couple of times a week (no other facilities are shared)

Reviews

2nd time staying at Willows Rest with a group of our good friends. Everything perfect. Great communication from Raymond and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely pub nearby and so much to do both within Willows Rest and the surrounding area. We have recommended to friends and family and no doubt will be back.

We had the most wonderful week at Willow’s Rest with family. The accommodation (both main house and barn) was perfect - the kitchen very well appointed and the owners super helpful. The property was very well stocked with soaps, dishwasher tablets, bin bags etc and the furnishings and fittings were of a very high quality. The location was great with lots of beautiful beaches, coastal paths and villages nearby - the Salcombe area is truly spectacular! I would highly recommend Willow’s Rest if you are looking for a break in Devon.

Toni, Windsor

Absolutely lovely place to stay with family or friends. Stayed for a week with family and young kids. Very accommodating owner. Lovely grounds and brilliant indoor swimming pool. Short drives from Dartmouth, salcombe and Totnes. Would certainly go back. 5 stars!

Andrew, Northampton

Perfect for our family group (age range 70years to 18mths) and everything we needed was there. Owner could not have been more helpful, accommodation beautiful and ideally situated for trips to the stunning coastline.

Rosemarie, London

Stylish, roomy, comfortable stay in a windy Devon Lane. Surrounded by old barn conversions. A drive away from beautiful estuary villages. The kind host lives in the house behind, super helpful.

Willows Rise is simply perfect ! Three generations recently stayed here (8 adults and 2 toddlers),celebrating my 70th birthday. The bedrooms are downstairs (such a comfortable mattress and gorgeous bed-linen) with one set away from the others, which meant my daughter and partner could escape from the little ones every so often ! The open-plan area upstairs is stunning, with well-equipped kitchen, large dining-table and lovely velvet sofas. The snug is a bonus. The pool was used twice during our 3-day stay and the older 'children' loved relaxing in the hot tub . We couldn't fault it !

Ruth, Barnstaple

We had a wonderful week with family in this warm and comfortable holiday home. Everything you could possibly need with children on holiday is provided and the swimming pool is an added bonus. Willows Rest is in an ideal position for visiting nearby attractions and towns. The owners are helpful and approachable if needed and we would not hesitate to book again.

We had a wonderful multi-generation family holiday at Willows Rest, thanks to Raymond’s generous provision. It’s a beautiful, tasteful place and yet extremely comfortable and warm, with great capacity for whole family meals and socialising as well as break-out space when needed, to get away from noisy grandchildren or Zoom work calls (great wifi!). The barn was exceptionally well stocked for the needs and play of babies and small children - although a car was needed at the destination, it was perfectly easy for one of our young family groups to travel light on the train. We all loved it!

Toni, London

We have had the best week staying at Willows Rest with our party of 8. Our 4 children loved every part of the barn and all it’s amenities and were so sad to leave! The adults appreciated all the well thought out parenting details as well as the luxury and style of the entire place. We’ve searched for many places to stay and I have to say nothing comes close to this. We will definitely be coming back to Willows Rest again in the future. The local area is also outstanding with awesome beaches and characterful villages close by. Just perfect. Thank you again to Reymond and Emily.

.... Just returned from a wonderful week at Willow's rest barn and cottage . We were a party of 12 , and we could not have wished for a more perfect accommodation .

Christine, Wales

We were lucky enough to stay here for a full week and rented both the barn and cottage. We were a family of 12 and had ages ranging from 8 - 70+ and it catered for all our needs . Everything was perfect. We received a beautiful welcome hamper which everyone loved. Everything there was of high quality from the beautiful linens, soaps & towels. The house and grounds were stunning and even the fantastic photos don’t do it justice. No one could be disappointed staying here.

Rebecca, Wales

I stayed here with all of my family for a whole week. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to have stayed. Made a special occasion even more special. Absolute dream house. Highly recommend.

Joshua, Wales

Had an amazing 3 night stay at willow’s rest with friends. It’s a superb barn & the décor is 5*, every room is decorated to a very high standard. Plenty of room for everyone & very comfortable. The beds are super comfortable, one of the best nights sleep we’ve all had! It’s was spotlessly clean, we can’t fault any of it. The swimming pool & hot tub are a bonus. Raymond was very friendly & nothing was too much trouble if we needed him. And the brownies were delicious, left by owners & a lovely welcome basket. We’d definitely recommend & hoping to visit again!

We stayed at Willows Rest for a long weekend, 3 generations celebrating a milestone birthday, and had a wonderful time. The house is truly gorgeous and it was fantastic to find somewhere luxurious that catered for and welcomed children. All the amenities at the property meant we spent most of the weekend there, relaxing in the house, making use of the pool and hot tub and enjoying cooking and eating in the lovely kitchen area. The bedrooms are decorated beautifully and so comfy and cosy. The welcome pack on arrival was so well thought out with tasty, local produce. We'll be back for sure.

Faye, Bath

This place is really so lovely. It's hard to get a sense of the quality from the photos. For a start it's bigger than it looks, but it's the quality of things like bedding, towels, toiletries, curtains, glassware etc that's so lovely. It's exceptionally clean, and everything about it feels generous and so tastefully done. Gardens were immaculate. We were a family of adults and teenagers and everyone had such a great time. Pool and hot tub were fabulous, the layout of the living area meant everyone was accommodated really well. We went in autumn - the area is absolutely beautiful.

Helen, North Wales

We're a family of 10 plus grandchild. We had a fabulous holiday with very good (not the heatwave week) weather so got out every day - managed 3 beach days, a fishing day, Totnes trip as well as walking/running including from the house. The house is just what we were hoping for. Larger than expected, very well furnished, fantastic welcome basket, sumptuous beds, great outdoor space in the countryside with swimming pool/jacuzzi but close enough to the town Raymond was always very helpful. The village also has a children's playground. Overall very, very relaxing and most enjoyable holiday

Simon, KNUTSFORD

We had a wonderful time at Willows Rest as a 4 generation family. It was an idyllic setting in rural Devon, but the Barn had every convenience and more to make our stay that of a luxury hotel. We were extremely impressed with the attention to detail and it was refreshing that children were well catered for on request with toys, stairgates, cots etc nothing was too much trouble. The indoor pool is certainly a fabulous luxury and enjoyed by all, along with the hot tub and outdoor playground area. We felt completely at home and Raymond and Emily made us feel very welcome.

Susan, Southampton

We enjoyed a very relaxing stay at Willows Rest. It was a very beautiful and spacious home ,with everything you need including the toys for the grandchildren.

Ricky, Bristol

We had such a wonderful stay at Willows Rest. We were celebrating a special birthday with young children and elderly parents in our party, the house worked perfectly for everyone's needs. Comfy, stylish bedrooms for parents to retreat to, a basket of toys for the toys and plenty of space for everyone to find a comfy nook to read a book or drink a glass of wine looking out over the gorgeous grounds. The swimming pool was a major bonus. There is so much to explore in this area of Devon, but our favourite thing to do was to come home and have dinner in the most amazing kitchen/dining room.

Eleanor, London

We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Stunning house and interiors, beautiful gardens - so much space both inside and outside. The house was fully equipped with absolutely everything we could ever need. Very kid-friendly too (they loved the chickens and the pool). Would go back in a heartbeat

Introducing

Raymond & Emily

Raymond and Emily live in the farmhouse behind the barn with their children, Archie and Lottie, and are on hand if you need anything. They spent their childhood holidays in nearby East Portlemouth so it seemed the right place to come and settle when they left London. Their aim was to create the perfect rural hideaway that was homely but also stylish and as sustainable as possible.
