The Experience

You’re in a peaceful valley beside a typically tiny Devon lane and surrounded by rolling hills and lush countryside. Collapit Creek which leads to Salcombe and the sea in one direction and Kingsbridge the other is just a few minutes away on foot – perfect for borrowing a paddle board and gliding along the ria on a high tide.

James, who lives across the courtyard, gives you a belter of a breakfast: a light English with the full works, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, sourdough toast and ‘crump eggs’ – you’ll like them. You can also order home-cooked meals to pop in the oven and e-bikes to borrow – this is a generous place.

Stock up in Kingsbridge and return to your love nest to light the barbecue and chiminea, open the wine and eat in your little courtyard, or walk 25 minutes across fields to a good pub, The Crabshell Inn. Sleep soundly in a big, well-dressed bed (it can be twins) with a beautiful embroidered bedspread.

Reviews

This is bed and breakfast with a difference – not just a room but your own beautifully decorated cottage, more luxury boutique hotel, complete with a kitchen and barbecue terrace in case you want to rustle up an evening feast. Breakfast is prepared for you, try Jamie's 'crump-eggs' or eggs with soldiers. Borrow an SUP to explore the nearby creek or take to the lanes on an e-bike. A perfect retreat.

Location

The neighbourhood

Kingsbridge is the closest town and has many independent shops and art galleries. There's a farmers' market twice a month, good delis and a traditional butcher as well as cafés and restaurants. Salcombe is 13 minutes by car and popular with yachties. Beautiful Bantham for surfing and South Milton for kayaking are four to five miles, or join the SW Coast Path for hikes and wildflowers in spring.

Local points of interest from Jamie and Melly Curtis

  • This is a paddleboarders heaven! We are 1 minute away from Collapit Creek where you can access the Kingsbridge Estuary with spring tides, or you have Salcombe, Thurlestone, Hope Cove and Bantham, all within 15 minutes drive.
  • We welcome well-behaved dogs, and there are some fantastic local walks where you can have an estuary all to yourself, or more well-known coastal walks which will take your breath away.
  • Although we live in a very peaceful valley, the hustle and bustle of Kingsbridge is only a 5 minute drive away or a 25 minute walk across fields. There are some fantastic restaurants including The Crabshell Inn, and the delicious Mahar Bharat!
  • Everybody knows how popular Salcombe is, hence parking a car there can be tricky! We rent out Ebikes that make getting in and out of Salcombe a cinch, with a stunning 20 minute bike ride along the estuary there and back.
  • You can stay with us self-catering or B&B, and either way you will have access to a fully-equipped kitchen if you fancy creating your own foodie adventure with some of the stunning local ingredients available here...# fresh lobster and crab!
  • We can also offer private bass fishing trips or estuary BBQ excursions, just tell us what you'd like to do and we'll make it happen!

Introducing

Jamie and Melly Curtis

Jamie and Melly ran a shooting lodge on Exmoor for several years but have now turned their hand to hosting the B&B. Jamie is a photographer and has set up a bass fishing business – ask him to take you on a trip; Melly is a superb cook and supplies the home-cooked suppers. They are both very warm and friendly and can give good advice on how to make the most of your holiday.
