Collapit Creek which leads to Salcombe and the sea in one direction and Kingsbridge the other is just a few minutes away on foot – perfect for borrowing a paddle board and gliding along the ria on a high tide.

James, who lives across the courtyard, gives you a belter of a breakfast: a light English with the full works, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, sourdough toast and ‘crump eggs’ – you’ll like them. You can also order home-cooked meals to pop in the oven and e-bikes to borrow – this is a generous place.

Stock up in Kingsbridge and return to your love nest to light the barbecue and chiminea, open the wine and eat in your little courtyard, or walk 25 minutes across fields to a good pub, The Crabshell Inn. Sleep soundly in a big, well-dressed bed (it can be twins) with a beautiful embroidered bedspread.
