The Experience
The open-plan sitting room is light, airy and spacious – sunlight floods in and the ceiling extends into the beamed eaves. Art hangs on the walls, there’s a wood-burner to cheer, a soft sofa, shelves filled with books, an Apple TV and plenty of board games, so even on a dull day you’ll be happy to be stuck indoors. The bedroom flows studio-like from the sitting room and has a well-dressed bed with crisp linen and an embroidered bedspread.
The well-equipped kitchen is a good size, has all the kit you need to whip up supper for two and generous basics, including tonic for your G&T. Take it outside to your little gravelled terrace, with table and chairs, a Weber barbecue and a chiminea for later on while you watch the stars appear.
Borrow e-bikes and cycle quiet country roads, or a SUP for watery fun in the estuary – Collapit Creek, which leads to Salcombe in one direction and Kingsbridge the other, is just a few minutes’ walk.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a peaceful valley, surrounded by rolling hills and lush countryside, but Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Bantham are all a five to 15-minute drive. Salcombe, five miles, is a pretty seaside town and a great base for hiring a boat to explore the coastline. Eat at The Crab Shed, right on the quayside where the fishermen land their catch. Bantham for surfing and South Milton for kayaking are nearby.
Local points of interest from Jamie and Melly Curtis
- This is a paddleboarders heaven! We are 1 minute away from Collapit Creek where you can access the Kingsbridge Estuary with spring tides, or you have Salcombe, Thurlestone, Hope Cove and Bantham, all within 15 minutes drive.
- We welcome well-behaved dogs, and there are some fantastic local walks where you can have an estuary all to yourself, or more well-known coastal walks which will take your breath away.
- Although we live in a very peaceful valley, the hustle and bustle of Kingsbridge is only a 5 minute drive away or a 25 minute walk across fields. There are some fantastic restaurants including The Crabshell Inn, and the delicious Mahar Bharat!
- Everybody knows how popular Salcombe is, hence parking a car there can be tricky! We rent out Ebikes that make getting in and out of Salcombe a cinch, with a stunning 20 minute bike ride along the estuary there and back.
- You can stay with us self-catering or B&B, and either way you will have access to a fully-equipped kitchen if you fancy creating your own foodie adventure with some of the stunning local ingredients available here...# fresh lobster and crab!
- We can also offer private bass fishing trips or estuary BBQ excursions, just tell us what you'd like to do and we'll make it happen!

Introducing
Jamie and Melly Curtis
Jamie and Melly ran a shooting lodge on Exmoor for several years but have now turned their hand to hosting the B&B. Jamie is a photographer and has set up a bass fishing business – ask him to take you on a trip; Melly is a superb cook and supplies the home-cooked suppers. They are both very warm and friendly and can give good advice on how to make the most of your holiday.
We really liked this place. Although very close to bustling Kingsbridge, it is well off the beaten track and feels as if it's miles from anywhere. We felt immediately at home in this very spacious and comfortably furnished barn conversion, and although the kitchen is very well equipped, we were pleased that we also opted to have Jamie's very tasty breakfasts which he brought over each morning. Although the weather was not brilliant, we didn't need to light the log burner, as the central heating was more than adequate. Definitely recommendable!
