The Experience
Gaze at the stars from the hot tub with a bottle of bubbly at this big sociable barn, ex-recording studio for Led Zeppelin. Surrounded by farmhouses, cottages and ponies, with views to Batson Creek and beyond, all you hear are the call of the birds and the squeals of very happy children.
It’s well set up for children with books, games, highchairs, dogs, ponies and hens so bring everyone and take the Stables below – together they sleep 18 and there’s room for all in the huge dining kitchen at a great big table. Windows have views, sunrises are worth getting up early for.
It’s a 15-minute walk down the lane for excellent seafood at the Crab Shed, and drinks at the stylish Gin Bar; ten more to the boutiques and boats of Salcombe. If you return in the dark – bring torches!

We had a great time , staying at The Recording Studio. The accomodation was very clean and beautifully presented. The location was relaxing and peaceful in the countryside, only a few minutes drive away from Salcombe. Highly recommend a stay here.

What a fab place to stay! Perfect for a family get-together, beautifully done up and so close to Salcombe but out of the hustle and bustle too so you can really relax! Freya and her family are so lovely and helpful and we couldn't recommend it enough - we'll be back!

Location
The neighbourhood
The AONB setting is semi-remote, with valley views. Salcombe, the third largest inland harbour in the world, is a 25-minute walk down pretty lanes, while the Crab Shed restaurant is even closer. Boats, bars and boutiques abound, as do water sports, sandy beaches and tiny coves: seek out Gara Rock.
Local points of interest from Freya Thompson
- Salcombe for restaurants, pubs, shops and atmosphere. From 15 minutes' walk away.
- The south west coast path. Walk to Gara Rock and back from the East Portlemouth ferry.
- Salcombe harbour for stunning sandy beaches, dinghy sailing, fishing, kayaking and diving.
- Bantham. Fantastic surf beach, short drive away.
- Dartmoor national park. Breathtaking scenery and excellent pubs.
- NT properties: Overbeck’s, subtropical garden. Soar Mill Cove, dog friendly beach and a healthy walk. South Milton Sands, The Beach House restaurant. Dog friendly beach. Greenway. Agatha Christie’s holiday home on the banks of of the river dart.

Introducing
Freya Thompson
Friendly property manager Freya will be your contact for booking your stay. She moves between Gloucestershire and Devon regularly, knows the regions inside out and is on hand for anything you might need.
We hired the Recording Studio alongside the Barn for a hen weekend in July which worked really well as we had a big group. The farm is so picturesque, the setting is stunning. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly - they live on site but it is very private and we were left to our own devises. The property is beautifully decorated and very well cared for. the beds were clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we might need. The location is ideal - a short walk into gorgeous Salcombe. I would have no hesitation in recommending for any groups.
