The Experience

The sound of the sea is with you wherever you go and on a stormy day the spray hurls itself dramatically across the garden – wonderful to watch from the vast window in the upstairs sitting room, which doubles as the master bedroom by day. Pale, uncluttered walls, natural wood table and chairs and dark slate floors give an understated beach vibe; there’s another living area downstairs and both have TVs, games and toys.

Two perfectly presented bedrooms downstairs can be super kings or twins and both have crisp white linen and windows overlooking the garden. There’s a shared shower room down here and a wet room upstairs. You’ll also find a handy utility room with an extra loo and space for hanging wetsuits. The compact kitchen has everything you need and a porthole window for gazing at the sea while washing up.

Children can play safely on the lawn and dogs can sprawl while you fire up the barbecue or laze under a parasol.

Reviews

Light and airy, this comfortable cottage with beachy vibes is the perfect place to enjoy all that the old fishing village of Hope Cove has to offer. Perfectly positioned, just a stone's throw from the pretty, sandy beach of Inner Hope. Large picture windows draw in the stunning sea views and the sound of the sea pervades. Where better than to sit on the deck watching the sunset across the bay.

Location

The neighbourhood

Hope Cove, once a busy fishing village, has a thriving community with two pubs, a restaurant, a hotel which serves fabulous cream teas and a village post office/store – all of which are minutes away. Try lobster and chips at The Lobster Pods or head to Oceans in Bolberry, 3km. Salcombe is a couple of hours walking on the Coast Path or 10 mins in the car. Kingsbridge, five miles, has a cinema.

Local points of interest from Wendy Winter

  • Enjoy the constantly changing views where no two days are the same. Wake up to an awe-inspiring sea stretching to the horizon, enjoy sunsets on the deck with a glass in hand or watch the waves crashing against the sea wall when the weather gets wild.
  • There are many lovely walks in the area, one of our favourites leads up to Bolt Tail along the SWCP. Make it as lengthy as you like – a short loop returning back through the square of thatched cottages or hike as far as Salcombe for lunch and a taxi home.
  • Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Swimming and Sailing are just a few of the popular water sports activities enjoyed here. Surfing and bodyboarding are great in the right conditions, or visit Bantham beach, fantastic for surfing, a short drive away.
  • Walk across to outer Hope Cove either over the beach at low tide or along the cliff path. Stop off at The Hope and Anchor, The Cove or the Lobster Pods for lunch or dinner. For a longer walk, the Beach House at South Milton Sands is worth the extra stroll.
  • Nearby, stunning Salcombe has harbour views, rugged walks, dog-friendly beaches, abundant sailing, and a wonderful array of boutiques, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Or visit the lively market town of Kingsbridge, set in an AONB on the Kingsbridge Estuary.
  • National Trust places nearby – Overbeck’s subtropical garden in Salcombe; Soar Mill Cove, for dog walks and a picnic spot; South Milton Sands, a dog friendly beach with the distinctive Thurlestone Rocks; Greenway, Agatha Christie’s home on the River Dart.

Introducing

Wendy Winter

Paul and Wendy are lifelong visitors to Hope Cove – Wendy's family have been holidaying in the area for many generations. When The Old Guard came on the market a few years ago, they knew they had found a special place. They live in Devon and come to Hope Cove with their family as often as they can. They firmly believe holiday homes should be lived in and they want others to enjoy the house.
