The Experience
This versatile barn is tucked down a private drive and sits by a lake deep in beautiful South Hams farmland. The restoration has been imaginative: oak beams soar above the vast, vaulted living space and there’s a long sociable table with room for everybody.
If you want to cook there are fabulous farm shops in every direction, or you can book a chef. The kitchen is well-equipped, and you’ll find all the basics for cooking in the cupboards, fresh flowers and an excellent visitors pack is sent ahead. Kids can run riot in the open-plan living space when it is wet – in summer spill out to the south-facing barbecue terrace for sundowners. There’s a games room for older children or they can head off exploring the 130 acres of valleys, streams and ancient trees.
Bring the dogs for walks along the sands (no fewer than eight dog-friendly beaches nearby). Dartmoor and the coastal rambles of the South Devon peninsula are on the doorstep. In summer watch swallows, listen for larks, see owls and bats at night.

Local points of interest from Jenny Montgomery & Michael Jones
- Big Barn nestles in the heart of the South Hams in Devon, an area recognised as ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ (AONB). Surrounded by stunning countryside and just a stone’s throw from the coast, there is plenty to see and do for all ages.
- There are 4 local market towns within a short drive from Big Barn; Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe. All of which are great for a day out and for picking up holiday essentials.
- With the beautiful South Devon coastline on your doorstep there is plenty to see and do. The area offers a wealth, of safe, clean beaches perfect for swimming, surfing, wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, canoeing and fishing.
- There are some sensational coastal walks in the area, our favourite is the walk along the South West Coast path from East Prawle to Salcombe. It is testing, but very rewarding. The walk is approximately 6 miles long and takes about three hours to complete.
- You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to fabulous places to eat and drink in the area. Including a host of excellent local pubs, waterside cafes, bars and restaurants.
- There are plenty of other leisure activities in the local are including; Dartmoor National Park, National Trust Houses, Paignton Zoo, Woodlands Adventure Park, Pennywell Farm, Dart Marina Spa and Dartmouth Golf and Country club.

Introducing
Jenny Montgomery & Michael Jones
Jenny (a local lass) and Michael had been living in France for some time but felt the urge to return to their beloved rural Devon. They fell in love with the magical setting of the farm and the conversion of the barn by the previous owner. They’re in the process of restoring and increasing the biodiversity on the farm with regenerative agriculture, and hope you enjoy being in this marvellous part of the country as much as they do.
Beautiful and spacious in an idyllic rural location, The Barn, with far reaching views is perfect for large groups of families and friends. Great kitchen with all you need to cook a feast. Lovely boutique hotel style bedrooms with crisp white linen. Jenny will provide you with a list of wonderful places to eat, lovely coastal walks and the best beaches all within a few miles drive.
