The Experience

This one-time apple barn was created by local master builders using locally sourced materials and is superbly insulated. It sits in a cobbled farmyard opposite the main house but it’s up a hill and you face the other way so the feel is quite private. The open-plan living space has a high ceiling, low windows, a comfy sofa plus a beanbag, some good books and yoga mats.

To the side is the hand-built kitchen with enough gear for the fussiest cook and you can choose whether to have local honey, wine or Dartmoor Ale waiting for you. Basics for cooking are all there and if you’re having a special celebration Serena can organise fresh flowers and bubbly. Your plump, well-dressed bed looks out over the meadow to Bowden Hill and the stylish shower room has Bramley soaps and lotions along with fluffy towels and robes.

You’ll find seating areas, a barbecue and a firepit in the bird-filled orchard for sizzling summer suppers and chats.

We think you'll love

  • Being in such a tranquil, beautiful spot with lovely walks all round you, hiring bikes, swimming in the Dart
  • Long summer nights by the firepit in the orchard with a glass of local wine or beer – on clear nights you can stargaze
  • Feeling cosy and warm even when the weather is grim – reading, playing games, drawing and painting, practising your yoga, calming down

Reviews

What a find! A gorgeous little hideaway for two set amid the beautiful scenery of Dartmoor National Park and the river Dart. Unusual fixtures and fittings in this pretty and comfortable converted barn as well stunning views especially from the bedroom will ensure guests have a memorable stay. So much to do and see nearby too. Lovely, friendly hosts make this a very special place.
