The Experience
This listed property overlooks an immaculate bowling green in the pretty fishing village of Shaldon and is on a narrow no-through road with very little traffic passing by.
Sara is a hands-on host and leaves a welcome hamper that changes with the seasons but could include strawberries, clotted cream, shortbread biscuits and vouchers for the local ice cream shop for kids. She’s thought of everything you may need for an enjoyable stay, and you’ll find crabbing lines, fishing kits and beach chairs in the house as well as a selection of books and games for a rainy day.
You can eat together around the kitchen table or enjoy a drink in the walled back courtyard, and the front garden catches the morning sun. Shaldon is a maze of narrow lanes and alleyways so there are numerous routes to take to reach the sea, with shops and restaurants dotted around – part of the joy of being here is exploring all the different backstreets.

It’s difficult to describe how special no. 11 the Green really is! From the wonderful host, to the fantastic location and the cleanliness of the property. The cottage is always spotless and cleaned to the highest standard. The beds are super comfy and the rooms are decorated with a neutral calming tones. The kitchen is a great communal space for the family with a utility space and WC / shower room. The living spaces look out over the green and have a lovely small patio to the front to sit out with a glass of wine (or two). Right in the heart of shaldon this property couldn’t be more perfect.

Location
The neighbourhood
Shaldon is a fishing village at the mouth of the river Teign and from here you can join the South West Coast Path for lovely walks – as far as Torquay if you’re feeling hearty. The Green is lined with Georgian cottages and you’re a short walk from pubs, places to eat and two sandy beaches. Catch the ferry to Teignmouth for a promenade, more shops and botanical gardens.
Local points of interest from Sara Gane
- Our holiday home is 100 metres from the coast in Shaldon, an idyllic fishing village on the edge of the English Riviera. A listed building that retains the charm of years gone by with original floorboards and quirky features, yet comfortable.
- 'The Telegraph' describes Shaldon as an untouched village. Visitors come from far and wide for the Shaldon Regatta, which is more than 200 years old and takes place in the August bank holiday, while locals pile into the fancy dress Boxing day race.
- Its a magical place for children to sail, row, paddleboard and scour the rock pools every day after school all year round, joined by day trippers in the tourist season. The handy ferry across to Teignmouth beach runs daily for exploring further a field.
- The summer months open up to long walks, we are a 10 min stroll away from The SouthWest coast path. Or enjoy lazy days at the local beaches, Ness cove is dog friendly and accessed through old Victorian tunnels, they say its where the smugglers used to land.
- Local eateries and cafes are a stones throw from the beaches and cottage including the sustainable, organic eatery ODE Cafe famous for its sticky ginger cake. If your looking for a break where you don't want to cook or drive Shaldon has options for you.
- The cottage sits around the green and there's nothing better than grabbing a coffee and watching or getting involved in the events on The Green from the bowling matches to the craft fairs or local music events for Christmas and Regatta celebrations.

Introducing
Sara Gane
Sara and Andrew moved down from the Midlands 15 years ago in order to be closer to Andrew's family, who live in Somerset, and settled in Ottery St Mary but fell in love with Shaldon, eventually buying the cottage. They spent two years renovating and it’s obvious how much love and care they’ve poured into it.
11 The Green isn't just a holiday rental; it's become our family's happy place. . The location is simply unbeatable. Stepping out the front door and onto the picturesque Shaldon Green feels like stepping into a postcard. The Teign Estuary unfolds before you, and the beach is a mere stone's throw away. We spent countless hours on the golden sands, building sandcastles with the kids and enjoying the refreshing sea breeze. To top it all off, we discovered a gem of a crab shack in Teignmouth. The fresh seafood was divine & the lively atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a relaxed family dinner.
