The Experience

Pretty much everything on the menu comes from the 1000 acre estate: beef, lamb, venison, eggs. They bake their own bread and muffins, make granola and preserve jams. It’s a popular spot for locals and visitors to the Peak District so make sure you book a table for dinner in the smart dining room. After a day exploring prop up the welcoming bar with a pint of Chatsworth Gold.

Visit Chatsworth House and Garden, you might catch an exhibition or seasonal event. There’s a playground and farmyard for families; little ones can bottle feed lambs in the spring. Stroll up to the award-winning Chatsworth Farm Shop for good things to take home or buy the food lover in your life a smart hamper.

Interiors envisioned by the Duchess include tartans, heritage colours and a good few antler chandeliers. Bedrooms are supremely comfortable, some in the pub and some tucked away in the farm house – just what you need after long days out in fresh country air.

Reviews

A gorgeous place to stay! Everything was brilliant - the staff were super helpful, food was delicious and generous - both for dinner and breakfast - our bedroom was beautiful and cosy, and walks in the area are unbeatable. Highly recommend!

Staying on the Chatsworth Estate and being able to walk to Chatsworth House across the fields is a real treat. I loved the down-to-earth vibe of this pub. It was full of locals, muddy dogs, weary walkers when I visited and the staff are super friendly. And the village of Pilsley is such a little gem - and you've got the estate farm shop just minutes up the hill.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the Peak District National Park with walks from the door. There's a 190 mile boundary walk that runs round the entire park if you want to tackle some of that - stage 12 runs through Pilsley and Beeley. Don't miss out on afternoon tea at Chatsworth - it's a fancy affair in the Stables Restaurant. They also host the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.

Local points of interest from Naomi Stemp

  • There are miles of footpaths from the doorstep. The nearby Monsal Trail is a favourite, which provides 8.5 miles of traffic free walking or cycling along a former railway line.
  • The Devonshire Arms is just a short drive from the historic Chatsworth House, where you can tour the house and garden or visit the playground and farmyard.
  • Stroll to the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop to pick up some tasty treats and local fare, or take home a hamper for the food lover in your life.
