The Experience
You can tell you’re in the Lakes as soon as you walk in – architects used local stories and literature to ‘tie the spaces together’. Find eclectic prints and paintings, antique furniture, a definite map theme, low lighting, Chesterfield sofas and original fireplaces converted into places for chatting quietly or reading. Prop up the bright orange bar for a pint of Tirril Brackenrigg Bitter while you decide what to eat.
Menus champion Cumbrian producers and farmers, with many of the fresh vegetables grown in the kitchen gardens at Another Place, 100 yards away. Bedrooms each have a distinctive character, six look over the lake, tones are earthy and soothing, all have come-hither beds and gleaming bathrooms with Land & Water soaps.
Wake to a delicious continental breakfast with fresh croissants or head to the Rampsbeck Restaurant for a full English – an extra £10. Work it off by climbing a fell – views from the top are magical.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're on the north shore of Ullswater near Pooley Bridge. Here you can catch a steamer for the seven-mile trip to the south shore for Howtown and Glenridding. Cycle, hack or walk along pretty country lanes, visit Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's farm, learn about geology at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum, see the lovely gardens at Dalemain or marvel at Aira Force and Gowbarrow Park.
Local points of interest from Another Place
- The Ullswater Steamers have been sailing on 'England's most beautiful lake' since 1859 - take a one-or-two-hour cruise along the lakeside, with the dramatic backdrop of Helvellyn and the stunning fells.
- Trek on horseback for an hour or a day along pretty country lanes, and by the lakeside - the views over Ullswater are breathtaking - all the routes are off-road, and the Highland ponies are sure-footed and well mannered.
- The National Trust describes Hill Top, on the banks of Lake Windermere, as a Beatrix Potter time capsule. It's a wonderful experience as you step back in time to 1914. The garden is also a great attraction, with its flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables.
- Historic country house and gardens near Ullswater. Described as one of the most beautiful stately homes in the north west, the pink stone of its Georgian façade glows wonderfully in the Lakeland sunshine. Dalemainincludes an extensive award-winning garden
- This is Europe's largest grass covered building - it's a dramatic, contemporary setting for exhibitions, talks and workshops and an Imax screen showing films. A food hall, café and great shops here too, selling hand-made chocolates, arts & crafts, etc.
- Situated in a microgranite quarry, the museum is the perfect way to explore the geology of the Lake District and the quarrying of local limestone, sandstone, granite and slate.

Introducing
Another Place
General Manager David heads up the Another Place team. The hotel was formerly known as Rampsbeck Country House and was completely redesigned in 2016, then re-opened in 2017 with 20 new bedrooms and a swimming pool. In 2022 they added the shepherd's huts, treehouse and a glasshouse on the water's edge for dining, yoga sessions and workshops.
Another Place (the stylish hotel just down the hill) has breathed new life into this roadside inn, sprucing the place up with a cool, contemporary vibe. Book one of the cosy front rooms and soak up the fabulous view that extends across Ullswater to dramatic fells beyond. Enjoy good traditional pub food, bring the dog or kids, and make use of the facilities (water sports/wellbeing) at the hotel.
