The Experience
Caroline’s eye for detail is extraordinary and everything that could possibly delight guests is already here. From the curved staircase designed to follow the line of the curved wall, to the outdoor hosepipe for muddy dogs, the hand-crafted details, sound-proofed windows, Vanessa Arbuthnott fabrics and the dreamiest mattresses, all of your senses will be soothed.
The bright open-plan living space is upstairs: what was a huge threshing door is now a beautiful window, there is plenty of sofa space, oak trusses from the original barn, a lovely work space and, from here, a rather grand flight of steps, flanked by David Austin roses leading to the limestone-flagged patio and steps to the orchard with old Westmorland apple species. The kitchen is geared for chefs (yes, you can ask for one) and you’ll find fresh flowers and good wine.
What a spot! East are the Pennines, west for the Lakes, north for Hadrian’s Wall. Walking is sublime.

Location
The neighbourhood
The village, surrounded by majestic fells, has a post office which is open three days a week and a pub which is owned by the family - the White Horse Inn, for a good pint and homemade pies on Fridays. From the door you can walk along the Lyvennet river to a Saxon church, or head up a fell. Appleby is five miles - a charming market town, Penrith nine miles for stocking up at Booths and Cranstons.
Local points of interest from Caroline Addison
- Moon Barn is located in the heart of Kings Meaburn, a small village close to the boundaries of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks.
- Excellent walks are found within the parish with the Lyvennet river flowing close by, whilst the many walks and hikes of the Lakeland Fells and Pennines lie just a short drive away.
- As well as walking, there are also a multitude of other activities and outings for all the family... irrespective of the constraints of the Cumbrian weather.
- There are many great pubs, cafés and restaurants in the local area, many of which utilise the great produce of the area in their food and drink offerings.
- Going slightly further afield, you may also visit the Scottish Borders and Hadrian's Wall which can be reached within 45 minutes.
- Moon Barn can be easily accessed from all major routes, north, south east and west. It's less than 10 miles from both the M6 and A66, as well as Penrith station which connects with the West Coast Mainline.

Introducing
Caroline Addison
Caroline and Chris live nearby and converted the barn themselves. They are very much part of the local community in King's Meaburn – their farming family have been here since the Vikings! Caroline is extremely informative about the conversion and also about local history. She has written a book on the village history.
Impeccably renovated and furnished, this airy beautiful converted barn was a joy to stay in. My sons adored the wide garden and its low stone walls revealing miles of farmland around, while the expansive patio begs for al fresco dinners every night. Nestled in peaceful characterful Kings Meaburn, it is enticingly close to the famous fells. Our hosts were kindness itself and had so completely kitted out the modish new kitchen that we wanted for nothing.
