The Experience
A gracious family-run hotel with a fine reputation – it’s one of those rare places that never stands still and additions include five stunning spa chalets above a small lake and two restaurants – SOURCE at Gilpin Hotel and Gilpin Spice. The Lake House is a separate retreat set in 100 acres of private grounds with its own lake – lifts can be provided to and fro if you’re dining.
A cool elegance flows throughout with smouldering fires, Zoffany wallpapers, gilded mirrors, flowers everywhere. An elegant sitting room runs into a chic bar, where doors open onto a terrace for Pimm’s in the sun; magnolia trees, cherry blossom and a copper beech wait in the 20-acre garden. Bedrooms are divine: crisp linen, smart fabrics, robes in plush bathrooms. The garden suites have hot tubs, the spa suites have saunas too.
Find a quiet spot in the immaculate landscaped gardens, admire the views. This is such a reviving place for a celebration.

Had a fantastic two nights stay. The staff are so helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. Dined in the Source restaurant on Friday enjoyed a sublime tasting menu with drinks pairing. Then a contrasting meal in the Spice restaurant on the Saturday. Where we enjoyed high-class Asian cuisine again with great cuisine.

My husband and I stayed here for the bank holiday weekend in one of their spa suites. Everything about this hotel was amazing. The rooms, location, food and staff were al perfect. I highly recommend the spa suite if you are looking for ultimate relaxation. The room had a beautiful , top of the range sauna and steam room, an infrared bed and my fav of all was the message chair, spent most of the weekend in that thing! The hot tub overlooking our own little pond, complete with water featured and outdoor Sonos system was absolutely gorgeous, we literally didn't leave our room for the whole weekend.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're surrounded by pretty, undulating countryside with fabulous views. Bowness-on-Windermere is a 10-minute drive which is full of interesting shops and cafés, also the launching point for the boat trips on Windermere – it's super to see the countryside from the water. Take a small ferry to The Drunken Duck, or a car ferry to Sawrey for Beatrix Potter's house and garden. Hire kayaks or swim.

Introducing
Team Gilpin
John and Christine bought Gilpin House in 1988 and both worked tirelessly at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House until their sad passing in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Their eldest son Barney, with daughter Xiá and wife Zoë, run Gilpin on a day-to-day basis – although Xiá has to fit in school as well. Younger son Ben, of Ben Cunliffe Architects, is involved with doing all the architecture of Gilpin Hotel & Lake House.
Nothing could be faulted, lovely suited with an outside hot tub, which was a surprise. Used both the Spice restaurant and the Michelin starred restaurant on site, fantastic service, and fantastic food throughout our stay. All the staff were attentive, polite, professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
