The Experience

Find oak beams and shutters, small-paned windows and thick old walls in this pretty cottage surrounded by glorious gardens and stunning countryside. Horticulturist Sarah gardens with wildlife in mind and has her own beehives and a walled vegetable garden – any summer/autumn excess is offered to you and you are free to wander at will in the evenings.

It’s a generous place, with wine in the fridge, the fire ready to light and a full basket of logs. Stroll to Cartmel for Michelin-starred food from Simon Rogan, Unsworth Yard for a bakery, a super cheese shop, tapas bar, brewery and wine merchant, or enjoy a pint in one of the riverside pubs.

Visit famous gardens, take a lake cruise or head to the coast – then return to a stylish kitchen, a sociable place to cook and eat together while admiring the garden views through the stable door from the bistro table. Sink into the large comfortable sofa in front of the wood-burner to chat about today’s – and plan tomorrow’s – adventures.

Reviews

Crumble Cottage is a real gem. It has been beautifully designed and the attention to detail makes it a wonderful place to stay. There are great walks from the doorstep and fantastic places to eat out locally. Sarah and Stewart are superb hosts giving all the information you need. We hope to come back soon.

John and Sarah, Cirencester

My husband and I stayed in Crumble Cottage for three nights over a weekend. We had a lovely, relaxed stay and found the cottage beautifully restored and decorated. The location is ideal for walking yet close enough to Cartmel to visit restaurants like Rogan’s. We loved sitting in the garden and also visiting Sarah’s amazing garden next door. The bedroom is extremely comfortable with lovely views over the Cumbrian countryside and the bathroom is immaculate. We enjoyed lighting the wood burning stove and the kitchen is well-equipped-wine and olive oil a bonus. We will be back.

Janet, West Yorkshire

Our stay at Crumble Cottage was delightful! The accommodation was attractive, clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. The cottage is a wonderful conversion from its previous role. Sarah and Stuart were excellent hosts, really welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. They were brilliant to talk to and their garden is an absolute joy - do take the opportunity to walk round it. Thank you for making our stay such an enjoyable one!

Mike and Sue, Norwich

We thoroughly enjoyed our break at Crumble Cottage. The cottage is very cosy and had everything we needed for our 4-night stay. We appreciated the period features of the building and the very tranquil surroundings of this quiet spot in southern Cumbria. There are lots of quiet paths and lanes to explore in the vicinity, and Cartmel itself is just a 20 minute walk. Little light pollution here, so wonderfully starry skies at night. Sarah and Stewart are thoughtful, welcoming and generous hosts and we really enjoyed seeing all they have achieved in their home and lovely garden. We hope to return.

Duncan, Harrogate

A perfect three night break - great cottage; great location and great hosts. Crumble Cottage is exactly what it says in the information. A perfect place for a wet November weekend! Thank you, Sarah and Stewart, for your hospitality

Jo, Ramsgate

Just back from a lovely weeks holiday in Crumble cottage ! The cottage has been lovingly restored and is very cosy & comfortable . It was a great base from which to explore this quieter and relatively unspoiled area of Cumbria. Sarah and Stewart are perfect hosts - friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Thank you !

Julie & Reg, Bolsover

Fabulous cottage in a fantastic location. Wonderful walking and eating nearby, friendly, helpful hosts. Highly recommended.

Sue, London

We had such a lovely break at Crumble cottage. It is perfectly appointed and Stewart and Sarah are so welcoming. The garden is inspirational and a great location.

Clare, Tunbridge Wells

Had a wonderful 3 nights at Crumble Cottage. The owners live next door and are so friendly and informative about the area. You are just a mile from the beautiful village of Cartmel. You can walk through the back lanes to the gourmet pubs and restaurants. Also Cartmel has its own brewery. We did several walks straight from the cottage including one to Grange over Sands. At night we had two great meals at the Cavendish Arms in Cartmel. Will definitely return.

Mark, Walsall

What a wonderful place!!! Lovely and romantic, cottage finished to a beautiful standard, lovely walks, legendary gastro village nearby but staying in for the one day was a treat itself. I booked this as a surprise long weekend away for my wife's special birthday and it was spot on. Certainly earned me countless brownie points. Already talking about a return trip.

Rupert, North Wales

We had such a wonderful stay at Crumble Cottage for our First Wedding Anniversary, the cottage has been lovingly refurbished whilst still maintaining a rustic charm. It's cosy and spotlessly clean and the facilities/appliances are of a really high standard. The kitchen has everything you'd need for cooking in as well as it being walking distance to Cartmel with lovely pubs and restaurants. It's a great location for exploring the Lake District and Sarah and Stewart are wonderful hosts with lots of knowledge of things to do both from the doorstep and further afield. We will definitely be back!

Erica, Manchester

We came to Crumble Cottage and Upper Crumble for our honeymoon. Both Cottages are absolutely stunning. Stuart and Sarah are incredible hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. They even posted a jumper that we’d left back to us. The hot tub is in a magical location. Everything about both cottages is so romantic. They’re absolutely spotless, well equipped, super comfortable and brilliantly located for access to Cartmel which is a gorgeous little village with fantastic places to eat. If you’re thinking about staying: Go for it. You won’t regret it.

Suzy, London

A lovely cottage in idyllic surroundings. What was a very special weekend for us was made truly memorable by a warm welcome and a wonderfully comfortable, beautifully furnished little place. We'll be back!

Nick, High Peak

We had a great stay at Crumble Cottage. Cosy and warm in a lovely peaceful location within a mile of the village. So meant we could walk to one of the very good restaurants or pubs for an evening meal when we didn't feel like cooking. We couldn't have wished for better hosts, with lovely touches like the home made cake on arrival and bottle of wine in the fridge. We really enjoyed the walk around the garden and definitely look forward to a return visit.

Liz, Grimsby

We really loved this place. The cottage is beautifully furnished and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The location is idyllic and close to local villages, amenities and the lakes. We'd visit here again.

Simon&Carl, London

We have just returned from an amazing 3 night stay in the Upper Crumble and we had such a brilliant time! Stewart and Sarah are 2 of the nicest, most welcoming people you will ever come across and will help in any way to ensure your stay is perfect! The place itself is of a really high standard - tastefully decorated, with lots of nice little additions and touches. The hot tub area is perfect for relaxing and under the stars at night, with all the lights off is an experience in itself! Perfect for a few days to get away and relax and will have no hesitation in recommending Crumble Cottages! 5*

Kenny, Glasgow

We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet and relaxing stay. Cartmel has plenty of good pubs/resturants and we particularly enjoyed pizza and beer/wine at the Unsworths on the Saturday night. Sarh and Stewart were on hand and were very helpful and amenable.

Peter, Leeds

We had such a wonderful holiday staying at Crumble Cottage. Sarah and Stewart were so welcoming and helpful and they have created such a beautiful place to stay. The cottage is really comfortable, with everything you could need. The gardens are stunning. It’s a short walk from Cartmel which is such a gorgeous village, and a short drive from Lake Windermere and Coniston, where we went on some amazing walks and found lots of great places to eat. We will definitely be back!

Juliette, London

This is a well designed and cosy cottage with all home comforts considered and catered for. Thoughtful touches, such as flowers and little treats, from the (very discreet) owners add to the charm. Cottage is nicely buffered from the owners house and adjacent cottage by good layout and design of outside space. The property feels secluded but is within walking distance of Cartmel and there are a number of walks straight from the door. Have stayed twice and really felt relaxed and a little sad to leave each time.
