Crookwath Cottage

We have successfully taken advantage of the sun, mist, wind and rain to manage a sail, a long hike up Great Dodd and enjoy the house, cows, nesting swallows (in particular) and rather too much cake (supplemented by additional trips to the Honesty Box Bakes). Loved the isolation and wind and discovering a little hidden valley so conveniently close to Ullswater. Thank you so much for the friendly welcome and hospitality. Lucy's Wood was beautiful. As are the paintings.

The cottage is absolutely wonderful and the location magical. We had the perfect stay and would love to return. We were greeted with a homemade cake, homemade marmalade, sparkling wine and dog treats for our labrador. I cannot recommend Crookwarth cottage highly enough.

Thank you for a wonderful stay - what a peaceful and beautiful place. The cottage is cosy and we felt at home here, we are sorry to leave. Plenty of great walks and new summits climbed. In 40 odd years of coming to the Lakes this week has been perhaps the best we've ever had with the weather.

A 'get away from it all' place. It’s idyllic – peaceful, quiet and a heavenly rural and wild position – in a remote part of the Lakes. Perfect for walking from the door and never going near a car!

Lovely cottage for exploring the northern / eastern lakes - warm, comfortable and charming. Peacefully located in a gorgeous valley with wonderful views and great walking, this is as perfect a holiday rental as you could hope for.

A magical family trip to this perfect, peaceful valley. We have now stayed in both Crookwath Cottage and the Barn in recent years and these are both truly special, cosy places - which you will find difficult to leave each day even with the many adventures that await. It's the ideal spot to abandon your car for a week or so and enjoy exploring the inspiring landscape on your doorstep. Lucy's Wood, the river and the hills around you, surrounded by nature as well as many lambs and calfs during our stay in Spring. You will leave completely relaxed and revived. Lovely hosts in Richard and Gina.

Richard and Geena are marvelous hosts. Our family of 5 were welcomed on the Friday and we were immediately impressed with the views, the constant hot water and cosy kitchen (we practically lived in the kitchen it was such a perfect spot). The bedrooms were great and comfortable with great linen and spotless clean. We LOVED our daily walk to Lucy’s Wood and were lucky enough to have some fine weather on our last night so we had a memorable bbq in Lucy’s Wood next to the barn. Richard could not have been more helpful providing us with wellies for all so we could make the most of our stay!

What a wonderful week in beautiful Dockray. Crisp fell walks on frosty April mornings, clear blue skies and the children playing in Lucy's wood. Crookwath cottage was the perfect retreat: board games by the fire, making delicious meals in a well equipped kitchen, cappuccino in the morning with the milk warming on the Aga and curling up with a book in the evening sun, watching the robin from the master bedroom. This place is idilic. We left feeling relaxed, restored and ready to face the world again.

We had 4 blissful days at Crookwath Cottage and didn’t want to leave. What a perfect place with stunning views and so many fantastic walks in the surrounding beautiful countryside. The house was perfect, cozy and comfortable, and equipped with everything you need. We will definitely come back. It was our idea of a perfect holiday.

We had a wonderful week at this cosy and lovely cottage. The weather was amazing and we spend many days hiking straight from the back door through the beautiful landscape up and down the Lake District mountains. Gina and Richard are lovely and helpful hosts which gave us lots and lots of tips what to do and where to go. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxed holiday. It has a well-equipped and spacious kitchen, beds are super comfy and the garden is full of birds. A wonderful get-away-from-it-all place to stay!

We loved exploring Lucy’s Wood and will always remember our exhilarating wild swim in the Beck! What a wonderful place you have- it has everything one could want and more to create a most memorable holiday! You two have been such fabulous hosts-we sincerely hope to be back again. Walking around Lucy’s Wood along the celandine strewn banks of the Aira Beck was such a joy. Jen the Dog was a superstar too! Thank you!!

Such a dreamy cottage made even more wonderful by Richard and Gina (our hosts) and their gorgeous black lab! The cottage is all that you see in the photographs and much much more. Three of us couples had enough places to sit together and chat as well as drift off to do our own things. The kitchen - diner had the energy of such great evenings and the first time we used an Aga. Spring lamb to pork dishes and even focaccia bed was baked and I credit it all to the energy of this beautiful place. I hope I can come again soon! The great outdoors was heady with long walks & drives & plenty of sun!

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful location, celebrating a special birthday as a family, with six-months-old baby and two dogs. Very warm, spacious and comfortable - and peaceful. Wonderful walks in Lucy's Wood and beyond, and all the facilities we could possibly need. Thank you!

We had a simply wonderful time staying a week at this magnificent cottage in the most beautiful of vallleys. The views were extraordinary, matched by the kindness and generousity of our hosts Richard and Gina. We were especially privileged to be guests, on a superb summer’s evening, at a concert held in Lucy’s wood - a very special place. Gina’s paintings - found in the cottage and in the local pub - are a great inspiration. They well reflect this very unique place.

Back for our 3rd visit. Crookwath is our home from home, welcomed by its warmth, the Aga, lit wood burner on arrival & Richard's homemade Biscuits. The most homliest cottage we have ever stayed in. It suits us all, some of us prefer reading and painting & I can walk the fells direct from the front door. We've enjoyed using the BBQ at the Barn in Lucy's Wood and dared go wild swimming in Gina's "special" place in Aira Beck. We just love the tranquility and peace of this place, not a sound apart from nature. We've been car free all week...just no need to go anywhere, this is a heavenly place.

As soon as I hit the Crookwath web site I knew this was the right place for us. What a relief after all those blind alleys. And when we arrived the pictures were even more truthful than they were on the web. We were welcomed like friends and our hosts wanted to do everything to make our holiday a happy one. We will be back and we will pass on the good news but really we would like to keep this place a secret.
