The Experience
A contemporary renovation of a Lakeland country house hotel sitting on Ullswater in 18 acres rolling down to the shore. You can paddle board, swim, or set off to explore in a kayak. Head back for sofas to sink into and an indoor 20-metre pool where walls of glass frame the view and adults reign after 6pm (or before 9am). The main building dates to 1714 and comes with ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces, the odd panelled wall.
The Victorian-style Glasshouse in the grounds serves stonebaked pizzas, or you’ll find the main airy restaurant for more super food. Sofas and banquettes are in The Living Space, a child-friendly place to stop and eat, play games by the fire in the library, or slip onto the sun-trapping terrace where views shoot across the lake to mountains soaring beyond. There’s a cardio room, a hot tub, a sauna and treatment rooms, and for children, the Kids’ Zone for indoor and outdoor activities.
Bedrooms have deep mattresses and good linen – choose between those in the main building or Willow Cottage (designed by Lynsey Ford). Breakfast on bacon, eggs, DIY waffles and maple syrup.

Just beautiful. Everything is so nicely done and of a really high standard, but we felt perfectly comfortable, even crashing in with shabby rucksacks. Can't beat the view from the pool (and the hot tub just outside). My girlfriend would probably say that the best thing was the massage she had, but for me it's the self-serve waffle makers at breakfast every time!

Location
The neighbourhood
There are loads of activities laid on by the hotel – archery, paddle boarding, open water swimming and night swimming - and plenty of grounds to romp in as well as the lake. Walks from the door are sublime, or tackle Hallin Fell, join the Ullswater Way, climb Aira Force. Hop on the Ullswater Steamer to see the whole lake and surrounding fells. Penrith has a good Saturday market and lots of cafés.

Introducing
Another Place
General Manager David heads up the Another Place team. The hotel was formerly known as Rampsbeck Country House and was completely redesigned in 2016, then re-opened in 2017 with 20 new bedrooms and a swimming pool. In 2022 they added the shepherd's huts, treehouse and a glasshouse on the water's edge for dining, yoga sessions and workshops.
Highly recommend! Situated on Ullswater, the location is just magical. Whether you are looking to swim, hike or explore charming towns/villages, all are within easy reach. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in the Glasshouse with delicious wood fired pizzas and super friendly staff.
