The Experience
‘A jewel in the palm of your hand’, wrote Daphne du Maurier of Trelowarren. It remains one of Cornwall’s finest estates. The entrance drive brings you in past a long row of evergreen Holm oaks that emerge from an ancient Cornish ‘hedge’. Choose to stay in one of the traditional stone cottages, the eco cottages or the old estate office, which has been handsomely restored and split into four spaces, just around the corner from the courtyard and the much-loved New Yard Restaurant and Pantry.
The estate is a wonderful place for families – there’s a gorgeous outdoor heated swimming pool and you’re deep in the great outdoors yet so close to much else – with 1000 acres of woodlands and farmland to explore. The Lizard coastline wraps around Trelowarren, the lush south coast is nearby, as is the Helford River to the east. Drive to Helston in 10 minutes, and to Penzance in 45.
Play tennis, visit the gym.

Trelowarren is a truly beautiful, wild and estate and we had a magical stay at Doctor's Cottage in July. Swimming in the outdoor pool every day, eating at the excellent New Yard Pantry, and exploring the local beaches on the Lizard. The cottage was big enough for the whole family and had a particularly lovely large garden, great for enjoying the Cornish sunshine!

Location
The neighbourhood
It's gorgeous here, on Cornwall's southern tip. On the estate there are feast nights during the summer with cocktails, live music and great food. Wander the newly-restored walled garden to find chickens, pigs and impeccable vegetables. There's a gallery here showcasing Cornish artists. Beyond are breath-taking beaches, delicious pasties, flora and fauna to dazzle and the South West Coast Path.
Local points of interest from the Vyvyan Family
- The Lizard is a wonderful place to stay. It is a hidden corner of Cornwall that means that even in the height of the summer, you won't be meeting hoards of people on the beaches, or in Trelowarren
- Trelowarren is 15 minutes drive from over 14 different beaches, that's a different one every day for a fortnight. You can find one sheltered from the wind, with sand for sand castles, with rock pools for investigating, with streams for damming.... and more
- We are surrounded by lovely gardens to visit at all times of the year. From March with the camellias, through to the Autumn splendour with all of the hydrangeas, you will find native and exotic planting all around South West Cornwall

Introducing
the Vyvyan Family
Trelowarren is the family seat of the Vyvyans - a very prominent Cornish family - and has been for over 600 years. The family still live in the manor house here. The current owner, Sir Ferrers, inherited the estate at 23 when it was almost bankrupt and has transformed it into a successful, environmentally-conscious business. They also operate a timeshare business.
You know you're approaching somewhere pretty special when the driveway is a mile long. And having your own slice of a historic Cornish estate...it doesn't get better than that. Come here to switch off — you've got a heated pool, award-winning places to eat, brilliant walking, all right here. But if you want to explore, the gentle Helford River and the wild, windswept Lizard are moments away.
