The Experience
Come for the wonderfully quiet Rame peninsula, one of the most overlooked parts of Cornwall. Freathy is a small settlement of chalets on the cliffs just above its own unspoilt beach, which you have to walk down to and has no public car park – which means it is mercifully quiet even on a hot sunny day. There’s a beach hut feel inside because you can see the sea from the front windows and the colours are jaunty.
On chillier days you can light the wood-burner and watch the weather from a warm place, perhaps with a good book, or cooking. The nifty kitchen is separated by a breakfast bar which is where you eat if you can’t eat outdoors. You’ll find a barbecue and an outside sauna on the west-facing decking where you can watch wonderful sunsets and stargaze on clear nights.
Small bedrooms have little room for storage but beds are comfortable and there’s a lovely bathroom with bath and shower. There’s a shared play area for children.

We think you'll love
- Opening the wine on a long summer evening, sitting on the deck, firing up the barbecue, feeling very much in holiday mode
- Gathering all your stuff and walking down the path to the beach for an early morning swim or bringing a picnic for the whole day
- Exploring the Rame peninsular by bike or on foot
You should know
- The path down to the beach is long and steep in places. It may take about 10-15 minutes to reach the sea and quite a slog back up

The Rame Peninsula is known as the forgotten corner of Cornwall and that's just how the locals like it. This stylish chalet, completely renovated in the last couple of years, is the perfect base from which to explore its secret beaches and long coastal views. Or maybe you'll choose to stay just where you are, to revel in the peace and quiet and to watch the sun set across the bay.

Location
The neighbourhood
Your views from the chalet are over Whitsand Bay and all the way to Looe on clear days. Join the Coast Path and set off for challenging walks, or head inland for gentle rolling countryside. The beach below you is delightful, huge at low tide and sandy, with large rock pools to delve about in. Cawsand is about five miles away and has a deli and an excellent bakery. Maker Heights serves good food.
Local points of interest from Barnaby Cook
- Cawsand and Kingsand: A beautiful little seaside town in Cornwall's Forgotten Corner, Cawsand has some great pubs, a deli and an excellent bakery.
- Millbrook is the closest village and has a couple of shops, a pub and fish and chip shop.
- The Old Bakery: Lovely little bakery serving great breakfasts, sourdough bread and cinnamon snails. Ask Chris nicely and he might share the recipe with you! They do great takeaway pizzas on some weeknights - check their website for details.
- The Canteen At Maker Heights. The food served up by this unassuming campsite cafe is truly outstanding. A great spot for breakfast or lunch.
- Cliff Top Cafe: Enjoy stunning views from the Cliff Top Cafe serving lunches, coffees and ice cream.
- Tregonhawke Beach: The beach directly below Tina's. It's a steep climb down, but a beautiful beach awaits, that's rarely busy, even at peak times.

Introducing
Barnaby Cook
Kris, Maren, Barnaby and Grace were all involved in renovating and designing the chalet. They use it as a holiday home themselves but also provide free breaks for people living with cancer. This place is one of our Sawday's Community Champions – not-for-profit organisations receiving subsidised Sawday's membership as recognition for their support of causes and communities.
Absolutely loved it at Tina's and it was exactly what we needed. The decor is fabulous and cheerful but also super comfortable and cosy. The views of the sea and sunsets are STUNNING - the light is incredible at all times of the day. It truly felt like we were staying at a good friend's house - it was so homely, fun, and had everything we needed - very well put together! We stayed in early June and were very lucky with the weather - exploring the area and beaches was wonderful - so wild and rugged. Would absolutely love to come back in the winter to experience the cosy log fire!
