The Experience
You’ll feel glad to arrive at this pretty Victorian house just steps away from the causeway, harbour and beaches. It’s not just the homemade scones, the bright interiors and nice surprises, but the generosity of spirit which is palpable. Bedrooms (with sea views over the rooftops) have crisp white linen, bathrooms have Pure Nuff Stuff soaps from Penzance and both rooms have private spaces for sitting and reading or gazing out of the sash windows.
Breakfasts are superb: homemade granola, muesli and marmalade, local or home-baked bread, bacon and sausages from the butcher in St Just and eggs from the chap next door. If you’re staying in Upper Deck (like floating in your own ocean liner) it’s all brought up to you and Lower Deck guests are treated in the lovely open-plan dining room.
Walk the causeway or ferry over to the island, spend glorious days on the beaches (towels provided) or join coast and cycle paths from the door.

Quite simply The Best! We stayed three nights at this wonderful B&B in the Upper Deck and feel much restored thanks to Alison and Paul's excellent hospitality. Their kindness, generosity and attention to detail are exemplary - they are such experts that they should run courses on how to do it - if only other B&B's were as good...!

We had a lovely four night stay in the lower deck. Alison and Paul are wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome, cooked delicious breakfasts and were very knowledgeable about the local region with great suggestions on places to visit. And Betty, their black Labrador, is a lovely, sweet and well behaved dog.

I chose to book 2 nights at the Upper Deck after walking past and noticing the Sawdays logo on the board. I already loved Marazion but wanted a particularly special experience for the friend from Cape Town travelling with me: her first ever experience of Cornwall and a long held dream. It proved perfect : from the warm welcome at the door on arrival to the help with loading our bags in the car on departure.. as anticipated the bedroom, bathroom and sitting room for our sole use were spotlessly clean, furnished beautifully in keeping with the Victorian home and the food was utterly delicious!

Lovely accommodation and gorgeous views. The Upper Deck wowed us from the minute we walked in. Bright and spacious room & comfy bed. Alison and Paul have thought of everything possible to make one's stay memorable. We were well looked after, and most certainly well fed - breakfast selections were varied, and delicious, served in the room, so one could enjoy the view. The B&B is well situated for a nice easy walk into town to enjoy what Marazion had to offer. Thanks again, Alison and Paul. We definitely recommend The Upper Deck.

Thank you, Alison and Paul, for your excellent hospitality, we've thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the 'Upper Deck'. The room had the 'wow' factor from the moment we walked in, beautiful view, super comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom - loved the rose petals for the bath! Especially welcome after our coastal path walks, coming back to relax and switch off was wonderful. Your breakfast options are fabulous, well cooked and beautifully presented - even just opening the fridge for the aroma of fresh coffee was a joy! Our stay with you was topped off with 2 fantastic meals at the Cutty Sark restaurant.

The upper deck B&B was a great place to stay for our visit to Cornwall. The location was perfect for heading out for walks along the coast path and it was a really lovely place to return to relax. The room was very comfortable with a lovely sea view & delicious breakfast!

This is an immensely well run B&B and the hosts, Paul and Alison have put a lot of thought into making stays as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The bedroom we were assigned, although double, had little room to manoeuvre. This is amply compensated by the generous provision of an adjacent living/reading/television room. The house is furnished to very high standard but it is the hosts' approach, and attitude (warm but unintrusive) as well as Alison's superb kitchen which stand out. We are resolved to return.

I am walking the South West Coast Path with a friend, three or four days at a time whenever we can fit it in. This was such a warm, welcoming, lovely place to return to after a long days walking. Alison and Paul were wonderful hosts, providing delicious breakfasts and a packed lunch to die for with sumptuous homemade cakes and hot soup. We were also arriving back soaked to the skin and covered in mud after torrential rain each day and Alison and Paul couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring that everything was dry for the next day. A really special place with lots of lovely added touches.

"We are leaving after a wonderful few days in Cornwall, and a fabulous stay at the Upper Deck. Alison’s hospitality, recommendations and warmth all contributed to making our minibreak relaxing and restorative. The Upper Deck is a sanctuary to return to after days spent exploring the amazing coastline and countryside all around. Alison’s imaginative creative breakfasts set us up for the day every morning, and the suite itself is a perfect place in which to unwind."

We had a lovely time in the Lower Deck. Everything was of a very high quality, and our Hosts, Alison, Paul and Betty were kind, attentive and entertaining. They gave us excellent advice and Paul went more than the extra mile when he came out to rescue us, marooned in Penzance with flat tyre, no spare, no jack, having set off for home 2 hours earlier. What a hero!

After such a long time without going anywhere, it was especially wonderful to have these 4 days of total relaxation. We didn't do a lot, just enjoyed the warm welcome, the lovely breakfasts, the helpful comments, the cream tea and the extra cake on our last day. Do go to Michael Caines restaurant in Porthleven - a gorgeous meal at the 'Harbourside Refuge'.

Location
The neighbourhood
Marazion has good pubs, cafes and restaurants - try The Godolphin overlooking the lovely golden sand beach where there is safe bathing, paddle boarding and sailing. Go fishing in the harbour or join cycle route No3. RSPB Marazion Marsh is nearby and you can take the train from St Erth to St Ives for the Tate and Hepworth's studio and garden. The world famous Minack Theatre is a 30-minute drive.
Local points of interest from Paul & Alison Elliott
- No visit to Marazion would be complete without venturing across the tidal causeway to explore the magnificent island fortress, harbour and sub tropical gardens of St Michaels Mount. The unforgettable view from the castle battlements are stunning.
- For a spot of culture why not take a picnic and book to see a performance at the amazing outdoor Minack Theatre on the cliffs high above the sea and beach at Porthcurno. We can lend blankets to keep you warm for evening shows.
- The mild climate in Cornwall makes for some incredible gardens to enjoy. Walk to Tremenheere, or take a short drive to Trengwainton near Penzance. The incredible Trebah garden and Glendurgan are a 35 minute drive away beside the Helford River.
- Explore the SW Coast path from our doorstep. Walk to Perranuthnoe or the pirate lair of Prussia Cove. For a proper 10 mile hike continue to Porthleven, enjoy a meal and catch the bus back. Expect amazing coastal scenery, perhaps seals and lots of fresh air
- The marine wildlife in Mounts Bay is extraordinary. Take a boat trip from Penzance and expect to see seals and dolphins, perhaps a whale or basking shark. if you go mackerel fishing bring home your catch and we''ll cook it for your breakfast.
- Marazion's beautiful beaches offer SUP and kayak hire and instruction, as well as safe bathing or rock pooling. You can even gallop along the beach and go swimming in the sea on horseback. We supply a blanket and beach towels if you simply want to relax.

Introducing
Paul & Alison Elliott
Paul and Alison moved to Cornwall in 2011, having spent most of their working lives in Lincolnshire and latterly the Falkland Islands where Paul was Chief Police Officer, but they always dreamed of running their own seaside B&B. In the summer months they rent out the whole house to guests.
We stayed in the Lower Deck; beautiful twin room, very comfortable beds. It's so lovely that you also have your own sitting room, with great views. Delicious breakfasts. Hosts are so welcoming and friendly. A very stylish and relaxing place to stay. I felt like it was more of a boutique hotel than a B&B. Highly recommended.
