The Experience

You are very well fed at either the more formal restaurant, Shutters, or at Craby’s Beach Bar and Terrace – there’s a passion in both for supporting local artisan producers so that most is ‘picked, plucked and fished from Cornwall and her shores’. Small plates are served as well as a reassuringly brief menu of mains with an emphasis on fish alongside some pub classics. The bar is a busy place most days but you’ll find some comfy seating if you want to sit with a book or do some work, maybe with a local ale or a cocktail.

Bedrooms are upstairs, apart from two which are reached via a side entrance. Those upstairs either face the sea or the town, some have balconies and all are en suite with Bramley lotions and soaps. You’ll also find a homemade treat and proper coffee pods, or you can go bananas and raid the tempting mini-bar.

Wake to a grand breakfast, locally sourced of course, then head out to explore, swim, surf or paddle.

We think you'll love

  • Having lunch on the terrace on a sunny day – the views are magnificent, out to sea and over to St Michael's Mount
  • Finding superb beaches, either on your doorstep or a short drive – some good for bodyboarding, others calmer and safe for children
  • The very friendly and efficient staff – they really are dedicated to making you happy

Reviews

If you are looking for sea views, they don’t get much better than this! The muted tones and soft furnishings in the bedrooms create a calming feel and the tasty welcome treat on arrival was a lovely touch! The generous breakfast served by wonderfully friendly staff will certainly set you up to head off and cross the causeway.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on the high street in Marazion with views of the causeway – when the tide comes in the waves are almost crashing on the windows. Other than the hotel there is a fish and chip shop and a small café serving sandwiches and salads. Walks on the Coast Path are gorgeous, especially in spring when they are frothing with wildflowers. Find an e-bike and set off on narrow roads, visit St Ives.

Local points of interest from The Godolphin

  • The ancient market town of Marazion is a place of picturesque streets with galleries and gift shops. Cornwall’s oldest town looks out to Mount’s Bay, which is by far the best place to see iconic St Michael’s Mount which sits just 500 metres from the coast.
  • The South West Coast Path runs through the town and the RSPB nature reserve is home to Cornwall’s largest reedbed and an abundance of plants and birds.
  • Marazion Beach: Windsurfing, kitesurfing, jet skiing and sailing are all on offer, and there are rock pools to explore around Chapel Rock and Marazion Harbour – or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere of this enchanting beach.
  • St Michael’s Mount: Hop on a boat or walk across the causeway during low tide to a community where modern life meets over a thousand years of history, with the oldest buildings on the island dating back to the 12th century.
  • Walk from Marazion to Penzance (2.7 miles): an easy walk that gives you great views across Mount’s Bay to St Michael’s Mount, the Lizard and Mousehole. Especially good in autumn when the Bird Reserve attracts rare migrants such as bitterns and water rails.
  • Restaurants & bars: Shutters, Craby’s, The Unicorn on the Beach (Porthtowan), 45 Queen Street (Penzance), Pocketful of Stones (Penzance), Ugly Butterfly (Carbis Bay), Little Palais (St Ives), Mussel Shoal (Porthleven).
