The Experience
The second-oldest pub in Cornwall, built in the 12th century and rightly proud of its history. Relax with a (very local) pint or one of their own label beers on benches with cushions, at a table to get some work done or to play some of the board games. There’s a relaxed atmosphere and some fine food flows out of the kitchen. There’s a specials board at lunch and supper and a reassuringly short menu with locally sourced, seasonal produce.
Bedrooms, two above the pub and seven in separate buildings, are simple and comfortable with William Morris fabrics and sheets from North Cornwall Linen. All have sparkling showers, Roberts radios, a decanter of sherry and home-baked clotted cream shortbread biscuits. Wake to a cracking breakfast of local sausages and bacon, eggs from up the road and fresh bread from Nile’s Bakery.
Join in one of many events, rub shoulders with locals, tackle the Saints’ Way from the door, eat and sleep well.

It's so nice to be able to visit an old traditional pub, with a roaring fire, that serves great locally sourced food and beers. Tim and Jos were perfect hosts, very informative and friendly and I look forward to returning very soon. A perfect stop to walk the Saints' Way, or even visit many of the amazing local attractions right on their doorstep.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a peaceful village two miles from Lostwithiel, an ancient stannary town known as the antiques capital of Cornwall with lots of independent shops and restaurants. The Eden Project is just 4.5 miles, Lanhydrock House 4.8 and the Lost Gardens of Heligan 13. Colwith Farm Shop is walkable at half a mile. If you book onto one of the musical events at the Eden Project Tim can arrange a minibus.
Local points of interest from Tim & Jos
- Bodmin has an important place in Cornwall's history and boasts 2 museums as well as a steam railway, several nearby country houses and estates as well as being the starting point to the Camel Trail and gateway to Bodmin Moor.
- The Saints Way, a great route for walkers, 30 miles in length, runs from Fowey to Padstow and goes right past the pub, so why not stay here and do the walk in a couple of days.
- The Eden Project is only 4.5 miles away and it deserves a visit - If you are going to the Eden Project for a music events, a minibus can take you to and from the event.
- Bodmin is home to the Camel Trail, a 13-mile traffic-free walking and cycling path that follows the route of a disused railway line providing a flat, traffic-free path for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
- The Bodmin & Wenford Steam Railway is a heritage railway that runs through some of the most stunning scenery in Cornwall. The line runs for 13 miles, from Bodmin Town station to Boscarne Junction, and stops at a number of picturesque stations along the way.
- One of the most popular attractions in Bodmin is the Shire Hall Courtroom Experience. The Shire Hall was built in 1752 and was the site of many important court cases throughout history.

Introducing
Tim & Jos
Tim (mostly bar and front of house) and Jos (events, bookkeeping and interiors and who grew up locally and worked here as a youngster) took over the pub in 2022. They are keen to make the pub the core of the community and to celebrate Cornish life – they look after their locals and welcome visitors. They host many events which you're welcome to join. They have two spaniels, a horse and a cockerel called Lucky. You are looked after well.
Had a wonderful much needed 4 day break. Jos and Tim were excellent hosts. Went above and beyond providing us with a welcome late meal on our arrival after being stuck for 3+ hours in a major traffic jam on the M5. Every meal was superb with a good choice of options. Lovely spotless accommodation, with great attention to detail. A jeovial, but professional approach to customers needs Great family atmosphere. Will return in the New Year.
