The Count House at Okel Tor Mine

What a wonderfully peaceful place! We had great days visiting the local area for walks and other activities. Thank you Jon and Jenny for being such great hosts. We do hope to get a chance to come back sometime soon - lots more to do and see!

Five delightful days of 'not London'! Despite the weather a joyous stay. First time here and already planning a second. Judith dipped in the river (sisu.) Peter got equally wet cycling. Visited the Lime Kiln Gallery in Calstock, a wonderful place. A piece of art is now destined for London. Thank you, Cornwall!

Comfortable, cosy cottage in a beautiful place. Fabulous views and peaceful. Cottage well-equipped and presented, with friendly, helpful owners. Enjoyed walks from the door - around mine workings, into Calstock for a coffee in Lishe Café and along the wetlands path. Walk to Cotehele - lovely estate. Train to Bere Alston, walk to Bere Ferrers, train back. Hope Café in Bere Alston a surprisingly good voluntary run café. Cake recommended! Train to Plymouth, ferry over to Cremyl, brunch in the Orangery Café at Edgecumbe - excellent!

We took our honeymoon here eight years ago. I see this as a retreat without the need to fly into a desert Oasis. Internally the cottages (I have stayed at both) are comfortable and comfortably not similar. Everything you need is there and anything that you know they have not got, you know beforehand (as a full list of stuff is given before arrival). The view outside from the Count house is gloriously unchanged over the 8 years I have been visiting. It’s quiet and unchallenging.

The Count House at Okel Tor has a lovely feel to it - small but thoughtfully set up with everything you could need for your stay. The history of the place is evident and it's hard to believe how busy and industrial it would have been down here 150 years ago. Now, it's all so peaceful, calm and natural. Calstock too is a gem of a village for locals and tourists alike- quaint, quirky and vibrant.

Wonderful place to stay-we regularly return and are booked again-this place feels like our ‘bolt-hole’. Beautifully situated cottages in a peaceful woodland setting. Ideal for dog walkers. Beautiful stretch of River Tamar to walk by. Cottages very clean and well appointed. A wonderful place to stay.

It just goes to prove that you can always trust Sawdays when looking for somewhere to holiday! Our stay was wonderful in lots of ways. Beautiful surroundings which are off the beaten track but a short walk to the delightful village of Calstock. A place to really relax and immerse yourselves in the tranquility of a cosy cottage and the local area. We stayed in a heat wave but are looking forward to our stay in December, keeping warm around the log burner! We fell in love with it and highly recommend.

This was our second stay and we have immediately booked another one! We love the location- it’s very peaceful and beautiful but within easy walking distance of Calstock amenities. We enjoy waking to the view of the river, hearing barn owls at night time and wandering round the old mine site. The cottages have everything you need (including cosyness) and the owners are very helpful. I don’t really want to recommend it too much in case it’s booked up when we want to visit! A real gem of a place

We missed a visit last year due to Covid and were pleased to see the precautions being taken at the cottage to make our stay as safe as possible. The cottage was prepared to the usual excellent standard, we were able to go straight in and make ourselves at home. The log burning stove makes for a cosy ambiance but the heating in The Smithy means we were always toasty! Despite having some rainy days we were able to sit out every day due to the veranda, which is always a great place to sit whatever the weather! Highly recommended, try it!

This is one of the most relaxing and restorative places I have stayed. It is a little corner of heaven, whatever the weather may bring. Welcoming, secluded and utterly peaceful. Stunning surroundings and walks and the local village of Calstock has great food at the Boot Inn and Tamar Inn with wonderful homemade cakes at Lishe cafe, all a short walk away. We have already booked our next stay!
