The Experience
Set off on the coastal path for Prussia Cove, once the haunt of smugglers. Return to your private courtyard garden. There’s also a communal outdoor shower – excellent for dogs and wetsuits. With towels, blankets and Cornish treats, dogs will be happy here.
This one-storey stone outbuilding is the first of three on an 18th-century farm, surrounded by Mediterranean gardens. The floor-to-ceiling windows create light and space, while the tiny kitchen makes use of each nook and cranny. It’s warm and stylish in a mid-century way – and also has a great wet room.
Body boards are here to borrow so head for the beaches of Perranuthnoe and Praa Sands. There’s a much-loved fish and chip shop a mile way, and excellent restaurants in Porthleven. Try award-winning Kota and Kota Kai, or the legendary Rick Stein.

Probably the best recommendation I can give for Smuggler’s Lane is that my partner and I have stayed there several times and keep coming back! The interior is well designed and comfortable and while the cottage is well placed for exploring Cornwall, it’s also a great place if you just want to chill out with a book in front of the wood-burning stove. The cream-tea laid out for your arrival is a very enjoyable touch. The owners are friendly and helpful in the rare event you have any problems.

We had a wonderful stay at Smuggler’s Lane at Middle Colenso Farm. From the moment we arrived all the little details were perfect: we were welcomed with handmade scones and jam, and biscuits for our dog. The cottage itself is very well equipped, full of beautiful furniture and is very cosy. It was great weather when we stayed and we made the most of the private outside space enjoying meals alfresco next to the wonderful tropical plants. The cottages are in a great location, just a short drive to incredible coastlines, beaches and pretty Cornish villages. An ideal place to stay!

We had an amazing stay at Smuggler's Lane - within minutes of arriving we had already wished we'd booked longer! The interiors are beautiful and were the perfect setting for a cosy autumnal break. We loved the log burner, the ercol furniture, the kitchen, Cornish Ware pottery, the bathroom, the gardens and of course - the cream tea on arrival. We are already planning our next visit!

Such a lovely space to spend a week. The interiors are tasteful and classic, with plenty of light coming into the rooms. Kitchen is designed so neatly, making cooking effortless. We were recommending to friends from the minute we arrived! Looking forward to a return visit in the not so distant future. Thank you Christen and Chris x

I loved the feel of this cottage, small but perfect, from the decor to the garden area outside. Absolutely ideal for a romantic break or a couple's space as part of a bigger group.

Location
The neighbourhood
Your closest pub is the Falmouth Packet a mile up the road - with a brilliant fish and chip shop opposite. Little Perranuthnoe (2.5 miles) has craft shops, cafes, a big sandy beach, and the lovely Victoria Inn. Praa Sands, 2 miles, lies in the opposite direction, with a beach café and a surf school. The area is a foodie haven, from Ben's Cornish Kitchen in Marazion (4 miles) to Rick Stein’s seafood in Porthleven (6 miles).
Local points of interest from Christen Pears
- Explore the historic market town of Marazion and iconic St Michael's Mount which are just a short drive away.
- Take a stroll down Penzance’s historic Chapel Street with its fascinating architecture, excellent shops and pubs. The iconic Art Deco Jubilee Pool is close by as is the fascinating Penlee House Gallery and Museum.
- Head over to the bustling former fishing town of St Ives, now an artistic hub and home to an offshoot of the Tate Gallery and the wonderful Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden. Don't miss the Leach Pottery on the outskirts of town.
- Once the centre of one of Cornwall's greatest mining estates, nearby Godolphin is a truly magical place. Once you've explored the estate make the short walk up Godolphin Hill where, on a clear day, you can see both coasts.
- Put on your walking boots and get out and about on the South West Coast Path. Some of our favourite walks include the nearby stretch between Prussia Cove and Perranuthnoe and the spectacular route between Zennor and the Gurnard's Head.
- Take in a play at the Minack Theatre, carved out of the rocks above Porthcurno Beach.

My girlfriend and I booked a last-minute stay at Smugglers Lane Cottage. We wanted to escape the city and have a long weekend in nature. The walks/hikes in the area are amazing, beautiful scenery. Coming back to the Cottage after a day’s exercise and exploring was bliss. We cooked dinner each night as we didn't want to leave the accommodation, it was too cosy. There was enough space to cook up a storm. Relaxing on the couch with the TV on, fire crackling, some wine + cheese and nice big blanket was the best. Bedroom was spacious and bathroom modern. Top marks from us, exactly what we needed.
