The Experience
This cosy 18th-century cottage is set in a cobbled lane in a conservation area. Simon and Penny are enthusiastic and hands-on hosts who live ten minutes away and will come to meet you.
There’s space to spread out inside, with two reception rooms and a suntrap of a courtyard with a table and chairs and a barbecue – it isn’t overlooked so you’ll feel nicely private. Penny leaves a bottle of wine, a cream tea and all the kitchen basics, and there are plenty of games and books for rainy days.
Stroll to the harbour to buy fresh fish for supper or to Jelberts for superb vanilla ice-cream. Good restaurants and a pub are within a five-minute walk, and you can walk to both Mousehole and Penzance along the coastal path or drive in five minutes.

As with our previous stays in Pendower, the cottage feels like it gives you a hug as you arrive, a welcoming home from home. We love being able to walk to Newlyns shops and along the sea front to Penzance, the cottage is so convenient a base for this. Then, to return to the Pendower, which is so well equipped, to enjoy a cosy, relaxing evening on an autumn night is really very special.

This is our fifth stay in Penny and Simon's charming well equipped cottage, and hopefully won't be our last. We have no need for a car as the local walks, amenities and public transport are excellent, making the holiday all the more relaxing. The train from London brings us to Penzance, with regular buses to Newlyn and the beautiful fishing village of Mousehole, and to local beauty spots such as Sennen Cove, Porthcurno and Marazion. Trains run to St Ives, one of our favourite day trip destinations. But mostly, we just love to potter along the coast on foot and enjoy what Newlyn has to offer!

We spent an idyllic fortnight staying in Pendower House - a gem of a place. It's comfortable, peaceful and ideally situated in the heart of Newlyn - as well being a great base for exploring and pottering about the wider area. Having decided to come down by train, we found it easy to get about - Lands End, Sennen Cove and The Minack Theatre by bus, Penzance, Marazion, St Michael's Mount, Mousehole all along the beautiful coast path, St Ives and the Eden Project on the train. It was incredibly relaxing not having to drive and find places to park. We watched the world go by instead!

Ideally situated in the heart of this lovely small town with lots of good eating places within walking distance. House was really well-equipped and very clean and spacious. A lovely little courtyard - the photos don't do it justice! The host lives locally and was on hand should we have had a problem - which we didn't but that gives you great peace of mind. Will absolutely go back there again.

Having stayed in West Penwith for many holidays, this was the first time we'd stayed in Newlyn, and it won't be our last. Pendower House was wonderful; full of history and peacefully tucked away in a quiet cobbled street. It had everything we needed, and Newlyn is a great area to stay in. We walked into Penzance; and on the way to Mousehole passed the Solomon Browne's Lifeboat house at Penlee Point. Can thoroughly recommend staying at Penny and Simon's house, and they were great hosts, helpful, and quick to respond to messages. The cream tea was very welcoming!

A charming and extremely comfortable cottage in a lovely part of the world. There are so many fantastic things to do when staying at Pendower House - from the amazing beaches, great gardens and interesting attractions - all so close by. Penny & Simon were very easy to deal with and their kindness comes through in all correspondence/interactions with them. We loved our stay so much we are definitely coming back, and would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation to others.

Pendower House is a delight. Situated in the heart of Newlyn it is so convenient for shopping and eating out, and only a short walk into Penzance, or to Mousehole. Penny and Simon are perfect hosts, and the cottage is superbly equipped. The private courtyard is an added bonus. We enjoyed exploring the coastal paths, with walls from Sennen Cove to Land’s End, and a circular loop of Porthcurno, taking in the Minack Theatre. The Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens were amazing. Another gem from Alastair Sawday.

What a find! We loved Pendower House, it's full of charm and character and the owner, Penny, has done an amazing job with the renovation of a very old fisherman's cottage right in the heart of the old town, making it perfect for a family or two couples with every convenience one could imagine but without losing the essence and character of the building. Two bathrooms was a real plus as was the internal courtyard. Penny met us on a arrival and was very helpful and welcoming and provided us with a cream tea and a bottle of wine - how good does it get?

This is a lovely cottage just a minute from the Quay and the amazing fishing fleet and market. It is a real home from home, very cozy with all the amenities you would ever need. This was our first trip to Newlyn which we found gave us a taste of the Real Cornwall and the fishing industry. We stayed for just one week. It is also a great base to visit Mousehole, St Ives, Marazion and many lovely beaches. I cannot rate this highly enough and we will definitely return.

A fabulous cottage in an up and coming area close to wonderful restaurants, beaches and harbours. The cottage is charming, perfectly equipped and the owners couldn't be more helpful. Fantastic nearby pubs, cafes and restaurants meant no need to cook apart from sampling the local fresh catch from the fresh fish shops on our doorstep. We had wonderful trips to Mousehole, Sennen for surfing, St Ives for beach and Tate, Portcurno for beach and Minack theatre, Jubilee Pool in Penzance and the great Newlyn Filmhouse. A great holiday all round, using public transport and no need for a car.

Thank you Penny and Simon, a superbly equipped cottage. We have had at least 20 years of self-catering and this is a cottage where you have thought of everything for a trouble-free stay. Our favourite thing was to wander around the fish quay especially in the evening watching boats come in and unload. And many thanks for the wine and yummy scones, jam and cream.

From the outside, this looks like a really pretty traditional cottage and this is borne out as you go inside but it feels a lot bigger and lighter than you might expect. A grade 2 listed cottage right in the heart of the fishing port of Newlyn it is comfy and modernised. With a beautiful private courtyard to the rear, this is a great place to stay in the summer or the winter.

Location
The neighbourhood
The cottage is in the centre of Newlyn, which has long been a draw for artists. You can easily stroll to good restaurants – Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar, The Tolcarne Inn, The Fisherman's Arms and The Red Lion are all within five minutes’ walk – as well as a small supermarket, a cinema (with a restaurant) and a number of art galleries and boutiques. You'll find Portuguese and Italian restaurants too.
Local points of interest from Penny Rumble
- Fishing lies at the heart of Newlyn's history. Explore the harbour, fish market and all the fish shops. Cast your rod from the pier or hire a boat for a trip in the Bay. Alternatively you can sample the fish in the many local restaurants.
- Newlyn inspired a whole new art movement in the 19th century. Enjoy the numerous galleries in the area or even try at course at the art school. Alternatively drop in to my studio and we can talk 'art' over a cup of tea.
- Newlyn sits right on the edge of the Cornish Coastal path. Step out of your door and head east or west, the views in the bay are sublime.
- Visit the pretty town of Mousehole, or promenade along the front to Penzance. The iconic St Michael's Mount off Marazion is a must.
- Wild swimmers can enjoy the relative safety of Mount's Bay bay. Penny is a passionate wild swimmer so do contact her for information regarding secret, safe places for a magical swim.
- The glorious surf beaches of far west Cornwall are only a short drive away. Try Sennen and Gwynver for serious surfing or Porthcurno for the family. Talking of Porthcurno - a trip to the Minack theatre is always fun.

Introducing
Penny Rumble
Simon and Penny ran an antiques business for nearly 30 years and since moving to Cornwall in 2008 have thrown themselves into local life and love introducing visitors to their area. Penny is also an artist, with her work on display in many galleries – you’re welcome to visit her in her studio. They have a fishing boat and enjoy walking the coastal path and swimming.
A charming and quiet cottage close to the harbour, shops, galleries and excellent restaurants of Newlyn. Penny the host was super helpful and attentive before and during our stay. All rooms were really well equipped and very comfortable and we enjoyed browsing through the shelves of books in every room. Newlyn itself is an excellent base for exploring the walks and beaches around the Penwith peninsula and offers a fascinating insight into the colourful life of a working fishing harbour.
