A huge old Cornish house that’s been in Kate’s family since 1760 – along with Indian rugs, heavy furniture, ornate plasterwork, portraits and a piano… even a harp. Historians will be in their element: pass three Celtic crosses dating from the 8th century before the long drive finds the imposing house (all granite gate posts and lions) and a rambling garden with grotto, lake, pasture and woodland. Bedrooms are traditional, full of books, antiques and pots of flowers; bathrooms are spic and span, one small and functional, two large. Come to experience a ‘time warp’ and charming Kate’s good breakfasts. Close to Falmouth University, too.
A completely magical place. Just making our way up the drive, we felt like we were stepping into a little eddy outside the rush of time. The house is filled with treasures, but also a sense of ease. Even the peacocks in the garden appeared particularly relaxed. The welcome was so warm, the room so peaceful, we wished we had longer than a quick weekend to stay. We will definitely return to see the garden in Spring.
