The food is delicious: cream teas are served every day, afternoon tea on Fridays and Saturdays, dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and home-cooked breakfasts that will set you up for anything – outdoors on balmy days.

The super-warm indoor pool can be reached easily and there’s a cosy treatment room. In the immaculate garden you’ll find sunny spots or shady places to lounge with a book and a sociable terrace for drinks and chats.

Bedrooms have distinct personalities – there’s a self-contained cottage too – but all are charming, with deep mattresses, lovely linen and spoiling bathrooms with Molton Brown soaps and lotions. Home-baked cookies and fresh milk are waiting.
