The Experience

Masses of history and oodles of character at this timbered listed house with high chimneys, dating from 1187… no wonder film companies are keen to get through the arched entrance and into the courtyard. Wedding parties just love to pose in front of this extraordinary manor too. It’s such a surprise – right in the village, yet with acres of garden and land spreading out behind.

The vast dining room is a dramatic setting for breakfast: sausages from Sue and Tim’s pigs, the best home bacon and scrambled home-laid eggs, bread and croissants from their on-site bakery, plum and mulberry jam from the gardens. The fire-warmed drawing room with family bits and bobs and art galore is a lovely place to settle, and you sleep soundly in comfortable, atmospheric bedrooms.

The peaceful, pretty village is full of good places to eat. Don’t forget to visit Sue and Tim’s farm shop so you can take some of their delicious produce home.

Wonderfully atmospheric old manor with a friendly, warm heart. The best breakfast of home-produced bacon, home-laid eggs and home-baked bread and croissants. Charming hosts too, happy to chat about the house, the pretty village and the surrounding area.

A wonderful place, interesting and special no matter what the weather. The room was fantastic, very relaxing, our hosts were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb and kept us going until tea time. A great base for seeing Oxfordshire/Bucks. Would definitely stay again.

Location

The neighbourhood

Long Crendon has various pubs, restaurants, shops and attractive houses, all different – an interesting village to wander round. The Manor's shop has local veg, sausage rolls, bread and cakes from their own bakery, home pork, bacon and cider, cheeses. Velvet Brown florists is on-site too. Garsington Opera is a half-hour drive. Train station is 10 minutes down the road (Haddenham & Thame Parkway).

Local points of interest from Sue Soar

Walk down Long Crendon's winding High Street and admire the plethora of thatched cottages, the Norman Church and The National Trust's Court House.. Drop into one of the low-beamed pubs for a local cider or some delicious food at one of several hostelries.
Oxford's dreaming spires are a bus ride away. Wander round The Ashmolean Museum and the colleges. Take a punt on the river, see Christchurch Cathedral, the Botanical Gardens and Oxford Castle.
Waddesdon Manor is under 10 miles away. Stowe and Bletchley Park, Blenheim Palace and Hughendon Manor are all accessible from here.
If your taste is for shopping: Bicester Retail Outlet Centre is just up the road or you can catch a train at our local station and be in London in under an hour.

Sue Soar

Sue's parents, eccentric doctors, bought the manor in 1976. Sue has a hotels background; Tim chartered engineering. Since taking on the manor they've turned into pig farmers, cider producers, shop/café/bakery sorters and B&Bers. Sourcing is Sue's passion and most produce comes from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire – or the garden. Films made here include Midsomer Murders and The Woman in Black.
