The Experience
At the top of a square, looking down to the sea, a super hotel with lots of interesting art. You’re bang in the middle of Brighton with all the stuff you’d want on your doorstep: galleries, bars, the Pier and the Royal Pavilion. As for the hotel, good food, great staff, relaxed informality and a playful style are the hallmarks here. You get stripped boards, exposed brick walls and an old garage door that slides back to reveal The Clubhouse – a buzzing hangout from coffee to cocktails, breakfast to bedtime.
You breakfast (royally) in the light and airy café space with sea views through big windows. Bedrooms come in different styles. Some have pop art murals, others come in Regency colours, a new batch are super-cool with baths in the room. Most have small, stylish shower rooms; one has a decked terrace. All are interesting and colourful and there are some self-catering flats next door.
Step out for seafront, shops, restaurants.

If I wanted a weekend getaway in lively Brighton where there is plenty to do regardless of the weather, plenty of places to eat and walk and a unique and quirky but ultra comfortable place to stay - this would be it! Lounge in bed late, with the sun pouring into the window and glittering sea views and then amble down to a fabulous breakfast served by very friendly staff. What more could I want!

Perfectly located on Regency Square, close to everything in central Brighton, this place packs a lot of style into each space, the rooms, and the elegant salon and bar, both with sea views. Staff were helpful and attentive without being too present. Enjoying a pot of tea in the bay window, overlooking the calm on the square, without the hubbub of Brighton's fun but non stop shopping and entertainment areas, was a welcome respite. Rooms were inevitably small, but had all we needed and the art throughout made the stay fun, with surprises around every corner.

Loved our stay here. We got a great deal through booking our stay on Black Friday. We had a small room on the fourth floor, with a magnificent mural by Jo Peel. The mini bar was full of unusual and tasty nibbles and drinks. The breakfasts were consistently delicious for all three days of our stay. The bed was so comfy, we slept incredibly well. The hotel is situated perfectly for exploring the town centre and the seafront.

Little bit shabby despite the makeover, but so welcoming and comfortable. Pristine bathrooms and bed-linen and delicious breakfast. Best of all were the helpful and friendly staff. I enjoyed myself so much, I stayed an extra might!

Introducing
Charlie & Justin Salisbury
Justin Salisbury started his small boutique chain almost by accident when he took over his parents' run down guesthouse in Brighton when he was just 20. He did that place up on a shoestring by inviting local artists to decorate the rooms in return for a free stay. This turned out to be his winning formula and together with his wife Charlie they now have several Artist Residences.
We stayed during storm Noa, and despite the brutal winds and rain, we managed to have an incredible time in Brighton - in part thanks to the wonderful staff at the hotel. We were welcomed warmly, taken care of to the best definition of hospitality, and enjoyed the aesthetic surrounds of The Artist's Residence. Couldn't think of staying elsewhere if we visited again.
