The Experience
The handsome 1820s house sits in 16 acres of rolling countryside with views over the Kennet valley, and to step inside is to feel immediately cheered – a blazing fire in winter, always a welcome drink, perhaps a cream tea with fizz before exploring. Out in the courtyard you’ll find a super coffee shop selling wine and home goods, a hair and nail salon and a playground for children.
Choose between Brasserie 1772, where head chef Pete Mason turns out exceptional seasonal and locally sourced food, or Yu, an enticing pan-Asian restaurant. Wellies and e-bikes are waiting, as is a state-of-the-art gym, tennis court and outdoor heated pool – then there’s the spa for ultimate zoning out.
Bedrooms are spread between the main house and a more modern extension, some vast suites or family rooms – all are exceptionally pretty and comfortable with beautiful fabrics and thoughtful touches. Wake to fulsome breakfasts, maybe with a Bloody Mary.
