The Experience

You’ll know you’ve found the right place because your name is written on a blackboard by the door. You’ll also find a breakfast hamper with homemade cake. Walk in to bold colours, soaring ceilings and exposed elm beams. The light-filled rooms run one to the other; a kitchen with bright blue Aga – there’s a combi-oven too – cream cupboards, solid wood worktops, exposed stone work and a painted antique Chinese horse. The dining room is where you’ll find the gins (hurrah!) – and leather sofas to sink into. A freestanding wood-burner (logs are on the house) is the focus of the sitting room and unabashed orange, lime and aquamarine in the cushions and rug add to the drama. Bedrooms have real linen, comfy mattresses, lots of pillows and bathrooms with slate tiles, exposed pipework, gleaming white porcelain and a copper bathtub for two in one. If it rains you can take the ‘Nothing Better to do Quiz’ – find unusual objects around you and guess what they were used for and what was paid for them.  Cycle, walk, sit about in the sunny courtyard or hop in the car and visit Oxford.

Reviews

What a beautiful place to stay, we'll certainly be booking again. We had the most comfortable, relaxing few days thanks to Roger and Lesley being such thoughtful hosts. The Longhouse had everything we needed and more. The welcome pack, which included the most delicious homemade cake, was very thoughtful and appreciated too. Beds were comfy, bathrooms high end and the log burner was a real luxury. We enjoyed playing the board games that were provided and doing Roger's quiz. Lovely local towns and villages and some excellent walks. We were blown away by the number of kites we saw. Thank you.

Sue, Penhow

We have had three nights at the Long House and the whole experience was great. A property of great character with lots of interesting pieces of furnishing and decoration. The bathrooms are a little on the small side but quite adequate. Everything else was just lovely and comfortable. Not only that but Lesley arranged beautiful sunny days in the middle of September! Thank you for a lovely break. We hope to be back soon.

Peter, Leamington Spa

We have just had the best few days at the Long House we did not want to leave! The house is just amazing and we especially loved the courtyard and the sun room and will definitely be returning. Thank you for the lovely hamper the cake was delicious. Just a beautiful place thanks again.

Julie, Nottingham

A very relaxing and enjoyable stay in a unique place full of character and charm decorated with antiques and artworks. Nothing was too much trouble for Lesley who was very welcoming and helpful. A home baked cake on arrival and a welcome hamper get your stay off to a lovely start. The flexibility of not having a fixed time for check in and check out means that you can make the most of your stay. The surrounding countryside is good for walks and birdwatching. All in all a lovely stay and we hope to be back again.

Lucy, London

We had a wonderful stay at this quite unique property - very comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully furnished. A lovely log fire and this, along with the central and underfloor heating, were so welcome given the freezing weather. Lesley was always on hand if needed and very quick to respond to any queries. An exceptional stay and we're already planning our return for the warmer months to enjoy the many outdoor areas we didn't get to use this time!

Carolyn, London

A wonderful stay over Christmas in a unique, beautiful & peaceful setting. We very much appreciated Lesley's help and flexibility, especially given the current challenges of travel and look forward to returning soon. The cottage is one of the best equipped and comfortable we've stayed in. Thank you

We have just returned from a long weekend. The Long House is a beautiful place to stay in lovely surroundings. The welcome pack was great, especially Lesley’s cake. Arrangements were faultless and we especially appreciated the flexible check in and check out. We dismissed a lot of properties because of the very late afternoon check in and early check out as you lose two days. It was very clean and comfortable with everything there you could possibly need. There are lots of lovely pubs to eat out. We went to Blenheim Palace which was only about half an hour away. Really enjoyed our stay.

Janet, Wakefield

Wow! As a previous guest said ....it’s a place you want to tell everyone about, but at the same time tell nobody about so it will be free for our next visit. We were met by Lesley, who is friendly, charismatic and helpful. The whole experience was pure luxury, like staying in the best boutique hotel, but you get it all to yourselves! Everything has been thought of and we can’t wait to return to the Long House!

We had 3 days at the long house and unfortunately it wasn’t nearly long enough, a beautiful and peaceful gem of a place with a very quirky character, great outdoor spaces and the barn itself has a little something for everyone, one of the 3 bathrooms even has an engineering theme! highly recommended and I feel nobody could be disappointed with this hideaway. Owner Lesley was very attentive and made us feel very welcome and even baked a cake … does it get much better ?! Very well priced and a solid 10 from us.

Tony, Manchester

The Long House is an amazing place! Conveniently located and very comfortably furnished with everything you could possible want. Lesley and Roger have decorated the house with paintings, antiques and interesting 'finds' which add to the enjoyment of your stay. The garden is lovely and there is plenty of outdoor furniture on which to relax. A truly special place!

Lesley, Bewdley

Great 'staycation' cottage in a lovely part of the world. Well set up for two couples, (as we were), bedrooms, bathrooms etc and all you need to self cater if so wish. Lesley was also a great host with helpful suggestions for local pubs and walks. The Long House is very well placed for trips out to Oxford, (highly recommended) and the White Horse Hill/Ridgeway, a beautiful area for walking. Very pleased that we chose to stay here.

Simon, Manchester

What a beautiful place! The Long House is definitely worth a 5* rating. A gorgeous setting and a stunning barn. Every detail had been thought about to make our stay really comfortable. Lesley & Roger have definitely gone the extra mile, you will not be disappointed. The garden is gorgeous too and a lovely place to sit and relax! We loved it and hope to return in the near future. The best self catering accommodation we have stayed in! Thank you!

Annette, Gillingham

This was our long-awaited return to The Long House and it was definitely worth the wait. The property is stunning. It's quirky and fascinating but also extremely comfortable with a luxurious feel. The courtyard and garden are both glorious and very peaceful. Lesley is warm, welcoming and generous. And if that wasn't enough, there's always the honesty gin bar! We're already planning our return.

Suzanne, London

This house is one of those very special places that we want to tell everyone about so that they can share a really great experience, but tell no one about so that we can make sure that it is available for our return visit. We loved everything about our stay. Such a stylish, comfortable, luxurious house with so many wonderful places to visit right on the doorstep. Thank you Lesley and Roger for being great hosts. We can’t wait to return.

Amanda, North Yorkshire

Our first holiday since lockdown turned out to be an idyllic setting, a beautiful Long barn in a remote and very peaceful location. Loved the attention to detail that Roger and Leslie have gone to to make our stay pleasurable and interesting. Lots of lovely little notelet’s about the place drawing your attention to some of the subtleties of the barn and it’s huge antique collection, including an antiques challenge. Everything was of the highest quality. The garden is split into two areas providing a quirky internal court yard in addition to the more formal garden at the edge of the property.

Roland and Kath, Durham

Such a treat to stay in this quirky barn with so many fun and thoughtful features. I loved the huge horse in the kitchen, the choice of gins in the honesty bar and the roaring log burner. Settle in, bring your slippers and relax! Great walks, from the door and a little further afield. Lesley and Roger are generous, knowledgeable hosts and keen antique collectors. What a joy after lockdown!

Jane, Stafford

Fantastic converted barn in a very quiet and idyllic spot. Lesley and Roger, the owners, couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable. Lesley was there to meet us with a beautiful homemade cake and a welcome hamper. All the toiletries were Temple Spa ... wonderful!! The property itself is amazing and immaculate throughout. We would recommend it to any couple looking for a quiet get away. It is close to Oxford for easy access and has so many wonderful places to visit nearby that time will fly by and you will want to return.

Bob, Exeter

A perfect gem set in the Oxfordshire countryside where despite the weather we and the dogs stayed cosy with the heat from the Aga and the egg shaped wood burning stove. The fascinating and eclectic mix of art, antiques and artefacts together with a wonderful welcome, the well equipped kitchen and bathrooms made it much more preferable to staying in an hotel. We hope to go back.

Rosemary, Near Plymouth

This is a lovely, peaceful property with farmland and countryside all around. It is close to good walks and decent pubs. The beds are comfy and the bed linen of high quality. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need and it was nice to be able to use an Aga for a change. Breakfast hamper was much appreciated and there are welcome extra touches like plenty of ice.

Carol, Arundel

The Long House is absolutely beautiful. It's been decorated discerningly and the cottage is full of fascinating paintings and artifacts. Every room is a work of art. Not only is the Long House visually attractive, it's also extremely comfortable. Lesley is a fantastic host - never before have we arrived to a blazing fire. And did I mention the honesty gin bar? The accolades just keep on coming.
