The Experience

You’re in the most beautiful part of Derbyshire; you could happily hole up here for weeks. All is deeply peaceful and comfortable in this fabulous barn conversion, with acres of fields to roam and your own garden to relax in. Find soft greys and lime plaster, lovely linen, latched doors and modern bathrooms (some baths, some showers). It’s the same in the stunning open-plan living area on the first floor with its amazing views and high vaulted ceilings.

Original local art adorns the walls, a wood-burner encourages lounging and cooks will be chuffed with the smart kitchen. The Clarkes – lovely people who live in the farmhouse – provide games, books, advice and logs. They’ll also leave you a homemade cake.

Nearby you’ll discover Peak District National Park walks, a good pub, Chatsworth House, Tissington, Haddon and Kedleston Hall.

Reviews

Winnow Barn is a fabulous, well equipped cottage. The location is great - walks and bike rides from the door. We have visited several times and the cottages are always warm, cosy and clean. The hosts are very helpful and provided a lovely welcome gift.

Helen, Bradford

A beautiful house that met all the requirements of 8 friends joining together to enable a weekend of relaxation, light activity, warmth, comfort and space. Location couldn't be better, surrounded by several walks with breaktaking views, located in the heart of the peaks. The cottage itself was clean, spacious and had everything you need for a long weekend away. Thank you to the hosts that were available for any questions or queries yet at the same time provided you with privacy. Thank you and will definitely be coming again.

Jo, Derby

Walk out of the door of this beautiful and very spacious barn conversion and you are right on the network of footpaths that lead to Dovedale, the Manifold Valley and beyond. Also great for getting to the cycle trails on the disused railways in this part of the Peak District. Really recommended! Thank you, Andrea and John, for a great stay!

Ben, Cheltenham

Winnow Barns is a well equipped, comfortable and spacious cottage in stunning countryside. Andrea the host was very helpful. The location is great and there are fabulous walks from the door. This was our second visit and we’ve just booked a third!

Helen, Halifax

A gorgeous barn in a blissfully peaceful and beautiful location with friendly owners. What more could you want?

Jill, Milton Keynes

Absolutely lovely property, perfect in every way clean, stylish and well-equiped. The owners were charming and helpful, too.

Katie, Verteillac France

It was charming, extremely inviting accommodation. There were 6 of us and we had a lovely stress free stay. Comfortable and delightful, with wonderful walks surrounding us. All due to the well organised set up that is Winnow Barns.

Susie, Ravigny, France

Thank you for the stay at Winnow Stables, it was absolutely perfect! The bedrooms and living space were gorgeous (we went home saying we wanted to buy it!!) We had the best time, loved the cottage and will be telling lots of people about the area / your rental properties! Thank you so much. Katie and Tim

Katie, Ilkley

Most perfect 5 day stay at the winnow stable. Very beautiful location and house, clean, furnished. Lovely hosts. Will absolutely recommend!

Marit, Trondheim

Outstanding property! Perfect location (near everything but so secluded) Gorgeous furnishings, well stocked kitchen, strong Wifi (& lots of TV choices for the channel surfers amongst you) cozy beds & plenty of hot water! The hostess, Andrea, was very responsive before the stay & helped w/ suggestions including a local chef who delivered some very tasty casseroles & lots of breakfast groceries. She greeted us upon arrival and was there to iron out a couple of small hiccups along the way (American misunderstandings of the appliances, no fault of the property) Who could ask for anything more?

Michele, Aiken, South Carolina

We've just had 8 family members staying in this wonderful cottage. The cottage is simply superb - very clean, uncluttered with everything you need for a perfect holiday. The surrounding countryside is fabulous and great walks right from the door. We will definitely recommend to friends and hope to return ourselves. Thank you so much Andrea, John and family.

Melanie, Guildford

A well equipped base in a beautiful corner of the Peak District. Wonderfully comfortable beds, the best we’ve encountered in many years of self catering.

Bob, St Albans

lovely location for walking in the White Peak beautifully renovated stone barn very comfortable, warm accommodation and all you might need for self-catering warm welcomes from hosts and characterful farm animals

Katharine, Canterbury

This is a lovely well appointed property with 4 good sized en-suite bedrooms. The living accommodation is on the first floor so as to maximise the views across surrounding fields. Good walking from the front door. Ideal for a family get together.

John, Solihull

We had a lovely stay at Winnow Barn - fantastic accommodation. Upstairs was a lovely communal space and great to have the log burner. Great location - so much to do in the immediate area.

Jenny, West Sussex

Wonderful accommodation set in a beautiful and peaceful countryside location. Fantastic walks on the doorstep. Excellent craft beer from Dovedale Brewery which is also owned by Andrea & John. Efficient and helpful owners. Highly recommended!

Sue, Cambridge

Winnow Barns is a wonderful place to spend a weekend with the family. The barn is comfortable, clean and very cosy. The location is excellent for walks in the Peak District . I would recommend Winnow Barns to anyone who wants to spend a nice holiday in the area. Andrea, the owner, is very helpful and makes sure your stay is great.

Hebe Maria, Birmingham

Winnow barn is located in beautiful countryside and we walked from there to Milldale and Dovedale. The bedrooms are comfortable and the huge upstairs space perfect with wood burner and well equipped kitchen.

Gill, Norwich

Winnow Barn was the perfect location to celebrate my husband’s birthday, with three adult children. Room and more for everyone to have their own space, but also to be together to socialise - the upstairs open-plan layout being a perfect entertainment space. Clean and with everything we needed, including a bottle of fizz waiting for us in the fridge. Fabulous walks from the door and so peaceful. Would definitely stay again.

Rachel, Loughborough

We had such a lovely visit at Winnow Barn, particularly after months of lockdown. The barn is beautifully decorated with lots of space and we each had our own bathrooms and a big kitchen to cook in. We ordered a welcome basket with lots of lovely breakfast bits and Andrea had left us a chocs and fizz which was much appreciated! We couldn't have been better placed for walking straight from the door into Dovedale and the Ilam valley. The family-owned Dovedale Brewery is on site, we had award winning bottle conditioned ales delivered to our door when we got back from a days walking!

Introducing

Andrea Clarke

Andrea and John Clarke took on the restoration job of a lifetime when they bought Damgate Farm fourteen years ago, swapping their professional careers in Sheffield for rare-breed sheep and converting dilapidated barns into three beautiful holiday lets. Now that their two daughters have flown the coop for university they’ve moved in a flock of rescued ex-battery hens and two donkeys, along with a host of other animals who call the farm home.
