The Experience

Lisa and Ian created this trio of huts in 2018, and each is stylish and immaculately finished. Find a double bed tucked into an alcove, flat-screen TV, wood-burner and basket of logs, and a sparkling en suite shower room.

You’re kitted out with a kettle and sink but for snacks, lunches and supper, stroll a few metres to Northmoor’s well-loved pub. Ian cooks everything from scratch using ingredients from nearby producers, seasonal veg from their kitchen garden and eggs from their hens. Wake to a spread of pastries, granola, juice and hot tea and coffee – it will be outside your door in the morning.

Soak up the sun on your little private patio or in the pub garden next to the orchard and veg patches and among the chickens. Stretch your legs along the many cycle and walking routes, such as the Thames Path, or around Standlake Common (5-minute drive).

Reviews

We’ve just got back to Cornwall after a 2 night stay at the Red Lion. Wow! What a place. So beautifully unassuming but delivered 100% excellence in food, accommodation and hospitality. Location is perfect idyllic nestled amongst a kitchen garden with lavender and rosemary lined paths and a chicken coup with the chickens roaming free during the day. The Shepard’s huts of the highest quality and offer such a peaceful night’s sleep. I haven’t slept so peacefully in ages. The food is stunning and we ate starters and mains both nights. We will return without doubt. A magical experience. X

Lovely community pub in beautiful countryside. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Dinner was uncomplicated but tasty. The shepherd's hut was cozy and beautifully presented with a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely. All in all a great place and we would love to go back soon.

Location

The neighbourhood

The pub is on the road that runs through the pretty village of Northmoor and the huts are behind it in about an acre of grassy grounds, alongside the orchard and veg garden. For days out, the bustling market town of Witney is a 15-minute drive, Blenheim Palace is 20 minutes and Oxford is 30. Ask the team about good birdwatching spots such as The Windrush Valley Nature Reserve.

Local points of interest from Ian & Lisa Neale

  • We are situated in the grounds of a 17th Century pub now owned by the local community in the picturesque village of Northmoor. We sell delicious local real ales and use beef and lamb from our local farms.
  • We have an orchard and kitchen garden where we grow fruit and vegetables for us to use on the menu and to sell to our customers. We host a gardening club every Saturday morning, you’d be very welcome to join in.
  • We are next door to a beautiful church, open all year round, don’t forget to look up or you’ll miss the stunning ceiling!
  • We are just a short walk to the River Thames, it’s peaceful, quiet and truly gives you a chance to switch off and look out for some local wildlife. Why not take a picnic with you?
  • We are situated 8 miles from the hustle and bustle of Oxford which Is full of exciting things to do, places to visit and wonderful architecture.
  • Blenheim Palace is close by for that perfect day trip!

Introducing

Ian & Lisa Neale

The Red Lion was bought up by the village community in 2014 and is now run by cheerful husband-and-wife team Ian and Lisa - they added the shepherd's huts in 2018. He heads up the kitchen and creates the delicious seasonal menu, and she manages the front of house. They live above the pub so are normally on hand if you need anything - if not their friendly team will help.
