Nestled on the Coleshill estate not far from Faringdon, a small but perfectly formed pub with a hugely warm welcome for hungry walkers, travellers and locals

Arriving at this former farrier's smithy out of the squall of a winter's day, we were met by the sweet aroma of woodsmoke in the welcoming bar. Simon was a regular here for twenty years before the National Trust offered him the reins; now he's running the Radnor with aplomb. From the art on the walls to the neat little beer garden, this is a pub run with passion and a lot of energy. Settle on a deep red banquette and choose from the menu of local, seasonal and affordable dishes. Try the hearty starters and bar snacks, such as macaroni cheese or rabbit terrine with Bloody Mary chutney and rustic bread. Our smoke-roasted sea bass with new potatoes and a poached egg was a feast of flavours, thanks to the pub's charcoal-fired Harrison oven. Everything on the menu can be ordered in a small portion for children. Walk it off in the nearby bluebell woods.

"Lovely quaint pub in a stunning village. Popped in for dinner with my friend and we were delighted with the small freshly prepared menu. I had the sea bass and she had the charcoal cooked steak, both delicious. It's not a big pub so I imagine you need to reserve a table on weekends."

"What you should expect of every good country pub. Excellent food, great atmosphere, great ethos and the art is surprisingly pleasing for a pub. In fact, it is the pub that I would like to have in my village."
