The Experience
In the rolling folds of the Cotswold countryside is this 18th-century coaching inn, polished to perfection by Tania and her team. Beautiful fireplaces and gleaming tables, fine china and big sprays of wildflowers tell a tale of comfort and luxury, while the smiling staff are rightly proud of this gem of a pub. You dine well in the sparkling bar, or in the clever conversion at the back, overlooking grounds that are part orchard, part walled garden.
Borrow wellies in your size for a bracing walk, then back to your beautiful bed above the bar; rooms, named after ducks, have fully stocked pantries with tea, coffee and drinks. Wake to a good breakfast, stay in for supper; food is a mix of innovative and classic dishes from seasonal menus and weekend specials.
Sip a local ale or one of their gorgeous cocktails on the rear terrace, with heaters and a fire pit for when it gets chilly.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're just a couple of miles from the Cotswolds and Chipping Campden is near for antiques, classy lifestyle shops, clothes shops and artisan food stores. Visit the Guild of Workshops in Sheep Street. Stratford is a short hop for the theatre, wonderful half-timbered houses and Anne Hathaway's cottage in Shottery. Visit Warwick Castle, Hidcote gardens, Coughton Court and Batsford Arboretum.
The uber-cool and sophisticated interior comes as a surprise at this traditional-looking village inn close to Stratford-upon-Avon and The Cotswolds. Owned by Bayliss & Harding, the bathroom products people, it's a beautifully designed and elegant place to stay, with soothing, contemporary rooms (dogs very welcome) and a modern pub menu that champions locally sourced produce.
